It swept away so many oscars but is it that good? You know, films get made in India which far better than this one.

All I know is that once you see that guy from lost dancing in a robe to pop music, he really doesn't seem that tough anymore.

You might not like it.

Just because it won an award doesn't make it good.

It features some of the best cinematography of the past decade, but at times the plot of the movie suffered from being too predictable and relatively simple. However, I believe that Gran Torino has just as many flaws, though the plot of the movie seems to be its strength.

I've actually been living in India since January (going back home in two weeks Woo! I get beef again) anyhow the movie is pretty accurate to life here. I've seen a few other "Bollywood" movies here and they completely fail at being entertaining, but Slumdog is pretty good if you want an accurate view of life here.

Yeah accurate life there in like, the 80s and 90s. Things are a bit better now... This is why a lot of Indians got pissed at how Boyle portrayed India.

eh....I thought the movie was OK...as a rental on blu-ray. It was my first Bollywood movie, but TBH, I really have no interest in Indian culture at all.

IMO, there were better movies in '08 than Slumdog

Why would you be suprised? People will jump on every chance they get to assert that something is overrated or overhyped, as if it is part of human nature.

My mind goes back to TDK which was obviously overhyped as the best movie ever, but I never saw this many people admitting that.

Slumdog isn't a Bollywood movie. There obviously were much better movies in '08 than Slumdog. And you don't have much interest in Indian culture because you don't seem to have dug much deep. Slumdog has nothing to do with Indian culture and neither has Bollywood. Bollywood was basically used by some critic to point out how directors here rip plots from Hollywood movies off, 'B' because the films were mostly made in Bombay (Mumbai). The name just stuck and has been in heavy use ever since.

Whats really sad in my opinion is that you guys are only exposed to the Bollywood part of Indian cinema. There are many independent Indian directors who make movies 1000x better than these big budget Bollywood guys. You should try watching movies by Ritwik Ghatak, Satyajit Ray (these two guys are old school) or even Anurag Kashyap (you'll probably not love him that much since you'd have to be an Indian to fully relate to his movies, but he is probably the most original directors in India)

You should also try Johnny Gaddar, its a Bollywood film inspired by James Headly Chase, but not ripped off. It didn't get much box office success, but it in my opinion is one of the finest movies of '07.

I thought it was alright, but it definitely didn't deserve the best picture award. I thought Frost/Nixon was much better.

eh...regardless of all that crap, Slumdog was still on OK movie to me. I only watched it because my wife wanted to.

And I highly doubt I'd watch any of those other movies you listed. I just have no interest in doing so.

Overrated and overhyped is a GS meme. We should copyright it! Anything that is good is instantly overrated. Alien and Aliens? overrated! Gladiator? Overrated! Ocarina of Time? Overrated! Mozart? Overrated! David by Michaelangelo? Overrated! Overrated? Overrated!

i saw the movie last week and i loved it...i think it really deserves all the accolades it got...but as an online gamer, i have to recommend an awesome movie i saw recently about a bunch of teenagers competing around the world to win thousands of dollars playing Counter Strike. The movie is called E-athletes, check it out... http://www.netflix.com/Movie/E-_Thletes/70111710?lnkce=seRtLn&trkid=222336&lnkctr=srchrd-sr&strkid=1106067949_0_0

Thanks for your comments.

It is a British Film indeed.

But you know, there aretruly much better films made in India (that means not only Bollywood)nowadays.

This you can take from an Indian, me.

The story couldn't have been simpler if the guy was an actual knight in shining armor. The acting was redeeming though, so it was an ok movie.

What isn't a meme? Heck, the concept of "meme" has become a meme itself. Overrated isn't a meme though, it's simply turning into a cliche term.

As for Slumdog, I thought it was a decent movie but the plot was far too contrived for my taste. It made Les Miserables seem plausible.

While I'd agree that Slumdog Millionaire featured a pretty lackluster plot hardly anyone is commenting on its beautiful cinematography...Something that has made movies like Citizen Kane and City of God classics, though those are much much better films.

I don't think it's a movie for everyone. I can understand how it won all the awards, but in my book it was a close race between Milk and Slumdog for Best Picture. Danny Boyle deserved Best Director though, hands down.
