It could but it also might be a big stress releiver. Would definetly be a great way to get your mid off something but you have to use it in moderation and know when you should be studying or doing your work. Weird for me to say this because I never study anymore :/
A good friend of mine asked me if I wanted to room with him. I'm thinking this over since he loves playing video games and so do I but wouldn't this be a big distraction from course work?Pvt_r3d
actually having someone with a similiar interest proves to be less of a distraction.
Sounds crazy right? Think of it this way:
if you wanted to quit smoking, would you have better luck quitting with a non-smoker being a pain in the ass, or with a fellow smoker who also wants to quit and knows your pain? The latter, for sure
by having a little discipline, rooming with someone that shares your interests will be ideal because you both know when stuff needs to get done and will hold eachother accountable.
I say as long as you don't get addicted to playing games all the time it will be a good stress reliever. It's not all studying, you have to sit back a relax sometimes, although in moderation of course. =3bededogSpeaking of which, I should probably continue studying for physics :P
I really dislike my current roommate, but I have liked some of my roommates at nerd camp things in the past. My roommate next year and I will probably get along rather well as well, as we already get along very well as is. Sometimes, having no roommate isn't really an option.roommates suck. Trust me. You're better off alone.

[QUOTE="thepwninator"]Speaking of which, I should probably continue studying for physics :PPvt_r3dYou and me both. I have tons of Calculus II homework. My differential equations prof is out this week, so (thankfully) I don't have to do any of the homework for that. Sadly, we have to do a take-home exam in that cIass by Friday.
Ive been living by myself for half a semister and it didn't really bother me all that much. Yet thats only because all my friends are in the next building next to mine. If they were farther away than I would be forced to talk to the alcholics next door.roommates suck. Trust me. You're better off alone.

I never like to speak in absolutes such as, "rooming with a friend is always a bad idea," but from what I've seen it pretty much always ends up hurting the relationship. I don't think just playing games would be a problem, butI would definitely make sure your schedules don't conflict, such as you liking to get a good eight hours and him liking to play video games till four and sleep till noon or vice versa. That's one of the biggest problems with dorm life is when you have a roomate who's personal schedule is bothered by you or vice versa.
[QUOTE="thepwninator"]My roommate and I play tons of video games. However, I mainly play games like X3: Reunion, Sins of a Solar Empire, etc., and he plays flash games.pygmahia5:lol: he only plays flash games? And Runescape. It's pretty sad.
Maye it's because I'm a stickler for game condition, but I'd rather NOT have a gaming roommate so they don't destroy my stuff or one of their friends does.
Better than having a roommate who snorts coke in your room. I've had problems with this one.CrimzonTideThat really sucks. I hate my roommate, but at least he doesn't do that.

Yeah, coke's one thing. IMO, as long as you don't end up getting in any kind of trouble for it, it's no big deal. I'd be pissed if he was throwing coke parties, but if he's just doing it habitually it wouldn't bother me all that much. Heroine, on the other hand, uhhhhh. I think that would be my line, I don't want to live in a room full of needles, surgical tubing, and scorched spoons.
My roommate freshman year just did not play video games and it was really boring. The first semester I would play FFXII all the time and he would just stare at me like "wtf?". It was not fun. I really wish I would have had a roommate who gamed and who was as nerdy as me.
It would be great if you guys both love video games, but if you don't want too much distraction then either tell your friend to try to play less or don't let him be your roomate if he is going to play a whole lot which is going to be a distraction to your work.
