Poll Samuel L. Jackson or Laurence Fishburne? (14 votes)

Samuel L. Jackson 43%
Laurence Fishburne 57%

Fish by a mile. He's a better actor by a mile.

Jackson can't play a role without indulging in Jacksonisms where he lets his personality tics into every role he plays. He only has two truly outstanding performances in his career: Jules Winfield in Pulp Fiction and Stephen in Django Unchained.

Fishburne has played a ton of diverse challenging roles which require him to subvert his personality and disappear into the characters. Jackson doesn't have the subtlety to play Ike Turner, Morpheus, Jack Crawford, Furious Styles, Joshua Larabee, Othello while Fishburne could have easily played any of Jackson's character and would have done a better job.

Fishburne is a brilliant character actor while Jackson is a brilliant caricature of himself.

You mention Fishburne but don't talk about Russell Stevens Jr? That was an incredible film and my favourite Fishburne role. Which was also one of Jeff Goldblum's best roles as well.

I love both, but I would regard Fish as the more versatile actor. Samuel L. Jackson shows up and is some variation of Samuel L. Jackson in every role. It's awesome, but Fish is more of an actor than a persona.

P.S. My opinion is in no way influenced by the fact that my wife thinks I look like a light-skinned Lawrence Fishburne.

Fishburne was such a goofball. I watched "Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse" early this year.

Jackson is a lot more entertaining to me, but Fishburne is the better actor imo.

Jackson plays, for the most part, the same character in every movie. Even in Star Wars when he wasn't allowed to curse and be his usual self, he was still a BAMF.

Fishburne on the other hand has a lot of different roles and such. I think he has been acting for way longer, too.

I love both actors, either way, though.

A shame Fishburne's daughter is a porn star crazy lady with serious, serious daddy issues.

LOL, this is probably the first time I've ever read the words 'light-skinned' on Gamespot!

OT: Love both guys, but agree as with most that Fishburne is the better actor -- he's got great range.

Sidenote: Samuel L. Jackson is a real life bad a**. He didn't like how his school was being run. He was expelled from college for holding the school's board of trustees hostage demanding they make changes to how the school was governed. One of the hostages and board member? MLK Sr.

@GalvatronType_R: Depends on the role, really. each has their own strengths and can fit more easily into certain parts. I couldn't see Fishbourne as Jules, just like I couldn't see Jackson as Morpheus.

They’re both great actors. However, they both periodically choose rather crap films to top up the petty cash account.

Yeah, I mean I still love it. It's like Tommy Lee Jones. He just shows up and is Tommy Lee Jones but it's still awesome.

Laurence is a much better actor. But Samuel Jackson is more entertaining. So imma go with with Samuel "motherfockin" Jackon.
