And they aren't pretty.

This was expected by most, but it seemed to be a sure thing after learning that the film was edited down against Lee's wishes - notably, the one take hallway sequence was cut down into three shots.

Thoughts? Did you have any expectations to begin with?

Expecting it to be poor so I'm not surprised. No need to remake Oldboy only to just compromise it and censor it for the American Audience.

Unless Spike Lee's version of that hallway sequence was really poorly done, I don't understand the thought process behind this at all.

Not surprising considering the original isn't even that good.

Has anyone seen ANY advertisements for this at all? I've yet to come across anything promoting this movie.

I've been to the theater a lot this year and I have yet to see one preview. Haven't seen any posters, either.

Not surprised. Usually not a good sign when a review embargo is set to lift the day before a films release. Don't have any interest in this...wasn't even too fond of the original.

How in a remake can they take out one of the most memorable sequences, the epic hallway fight scene with the hammer...

Eh I read like 20 chapters of the manga and didn't think it was very good. Don't really care.

I wonder how something like Ichi the Killer would turn out if they tried for an American release haha.

Well, the trailer looked awful, that's for sure. No surprise here.

The original Oldboy was fantastic. And I love me some Spike Lee. Just too bad.

Thankfully the manga has very little to do with the film besides the title and premise.

I'm not that surprised. I still have to watch the original.

I'm more interested in seeing Frozen this weekend.

@Aljosa23: Oh. That's probably a good thing, in the manga the protagonist was waaay too powerful. It's the main thing I didn't like about it.

I've never actually seen the movie, I read the manga. I have no idea how they would make it into a movie... a lot of crazy shit went down in it.

Totally deserved. No reason to remake such a phenomenal movie as the original, especially considering the original is not that old and doesn't have any facets of it that are outdated....

It is simply not the type of movie that needed to be coming out in theaters here. I don't think the general public are going to be up for a movie like this. Those of us who would have had any interest likely have already seen the original. It isn't exactly a hard movie to find as it has been sold at FYE for years now...

At least we still have the original film which is classic, along with the awesome "sequel" Sympathy For Lady Vengeance!

Because everything has to be remade for some reason. All remakes ever made can suffer bad reviews but they just won't stop making them. Wen I want Old Boy, Ill watch the original. I see absolutely no reason to go watch a remake.
