I received a Chapters gift card for Christmas, so I'm poised to use it as soon as I'm finished reading The Partner. Recommend me a good book, if you can tell me why you like it, more power to you.

It doesn't matter what genre, just give me a good recommendation.

Star Wars New Jedi Order: Vector Prime

The new Jedi order series is pure awesomeness IMO, darker then most of the stuff before it, and far more compelling:P Plus I'm a SW nerd :P

1984 by George Orwell- Just... Amazing.

The French Lieutenant's Woman by John Fowles. A beautifully written story of Victorian Britain.

Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck- Probably my favorite book, simply amazingly written incredibly sad story.

The Thirty-Nine Steps. If you've seen the Hitchcock film, it's nothing like that. Really good, suspenseful mystery/spy novel.

"House of Leaves" by Mark Z. Danielewski ~ A play on modern fiction that combines the writing of a textbook with that of a work of horror/suspense fiction where the actual story plays out in the footnotes to the textbook.

"A Clockwork Orange" by Anthony Burgess ~ A cIassic story about the importance of an individual's right to choose their morality and the growth of adolescence into adulthood.

"Burmese Days" by George Orwell ~ Unlike his later and much more revered work "Ninteen Eighty Four," Orwell creates more of a down-to-Earth story about a normal British man living in Burma in the early 20th century. Like most of Orwell's works, it plays on the banality and simplicity of everyday life.

Out of all the novels I have read in my life, those three are the ones I have enjoyed the most and would recommend them to anyone, if only just to experience them.

I would highly recommend Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky. Probably the best psychological thriller ever written.

The Dark Tower Series from Stephen King, and if you are into Westerns I can recommend several titles from there, because that's the genre that I hold dear.

Have a Nice Day by Mick Foley. I have not been a wrestling fan for about 9 years, but I fell in love with this book last year. Its a fantastic tale. And any of the logotherapy books by Viktor Frankl. They'll change the way you look at people.

Judging from your avatar I presume you have read A Clockwork Orange, but have you read anything else by Anthony Burgess? I would certainly recommend "Earthly Powers".

the metamorphosis by kafka is one of my favorites. its surreal nature and dark sense of humor will keep the pages turning. its content is open to interpretation, but i trust youll see plenty of parallels to our society.

if youve already read some books from the middle earth universe and are looking for more of a narrative than the metamorphosis, check out children of hurin. its more personal than lotr, but still a beautiful, epic, and dark fantasy.

Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood.

I'm only about 70 pages into it so far but I'm highly enjoying it with its interesting characters and plot elements/setting. Takes place in a dystopian future and deals a lot with proliferation of current day technology such as genetic engineering, organ transplants, snuff films/child pornography and so on.

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas is quite epic. It's not action-filled, but it's still a page-turner. It's my personal favorite.

Dune, by Frank Herbert. I got it for christmas, I haven't gotten too far, but so far it's very interesting. It might be a bit tough to understand for me, because it's in english, but I always love a good challenge. It's a sci-fi, if you don't like that genre.

Infidel: By Ayaan Hirsi Ali. The book explains Islam from a woman's point of view, and is an amazing story of hope, courage & will power. Everyone I've ever loaned it to has been very impressed.
