My current laptop is giving me trouble, and it's pretty old. So I'm looking to get a pretty cheap laptop. I pretty much just use a laptop to surf the web, watch youtube, maybe play around in photoshop every now and then. So I don't need a very expensive laptop. And I'd prefer if it was closer to $200 than $300.

I'm willing to buy a refurbished laptop.

I was looking at bestbuy and they have a new Dell laptop with Windows 8 for $279.  Here is a refurbished Lenovo Ideapad for the same price as the new Dell... $279:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Lenovo+-+IdeaPad+15.6%26%2334%3B+Refurbished+Laptop+-+4GB+Memory+-+320GB+Hard+Drive+-+Black/8976098.p?id=1219013503692&skuId=8976098

Got any ideas?

I'd highly recommend upping your budget to slightly higher and going with a decent AMD APU, at least.

Don't get that one,it's like 5 years old. Spend a bit more and get a new one,you won't regret it. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Toshiba+-+Satellite+15.6%26%2334%3B+Laptop+-+4GB+Memory+-+500GB+Hard+Drive+-+Satin+Black/8912335.p?id=1218944437843&skuId=8912335

Like I said, watching youtube videos is about the most strenuous thing I need my computer to do. So I don't need an expensive laptop.

But if I'm going to spend $200-$300, I'd like to get the best one for the money I spend.

MonsieurX posted about the best you can probably get in your price range without finding one heck of a deal. At the same time, it's much better than the one in your OP (It's a low end AMD APU). I actually use that chip's brother in my media center. It's a low clocked dual core CPU which helps with responsiveness and the on-die GPU is fanatastic for an on board solution in that package.

Only if you can get the $2000 rebate. But that is only offered to every 1 and 1,000,000,000,000 customers.

Stick with your current laptop and save $20-50/month over 2-3 years and then buy yourself either a Vaio, Asus, or Alienware. All of which make great laptops.

If you just want to surf the web and do word processing I'd reccomend a Chromebook.  They're cheap, and with cloud storage there's really no need for a big internal memory drive.  As far as new laptops go, anything decent is going to run you at least $600.  I'm not so sure about used rigs, though.

Interesting. What is better about a Chromebook compared to a Dell laptop like this:

The one in the updated link is now in the same ballpark as the one MonsieurX recommended. I still prefer the AMD APU one in a laptop for a couple reasons (a far better graphics subsystem at the expense of moderate CPU performance and I've found the APUs generally have significantly better battery life, all other things being equal). But, really, they're comparable.

There aren't many decent ones under $300. When I was going to give a family member a laptop, I started off considering buying them a $300 dollar laptop but seeing how old their hardware was(had a intel celeron cpu) and how extremely shitty their specs were, even for a casual-use laptop, I decided to fork over 100 dollars more and buy them a decent $400 laptop with an i3 cpu, 4 gigs of ram, and 500gb harddrive.

My current laptop is about 8 years old, and was about $500 at the time i bought it. So I'm sure even a $300 laptop is an upgrade. I'm going to head over to best buy in a little bit and check out some of the laptops you guys recommended. I wanna check out the chrome books since they seem different and cheaper.

Got any ideas?

My old one was 4 years old. This Dell I got last week is definitely an upgrade.

Well, I just got back from Best Buy. I bought the Dell.

I'm liking it so far. Much better than my old laptop, even if it is cheap.

Thanks for the help, guys.

[QUOTE="Nibroc420"][QUOTE="ad1x2"][QUOTE="Nengo_Flow"] 16gb HDD lol wut?

Some people can't grasp the idea that wifi hotspots aren't always available and internet connections sometimes go down when you need it the most.

lol, some people dont grasp that 16gb isn't enough for anything.

Gotta go with this.
