I've seen it twice, first time in true IMAX on a 6 story tall screen (not the lie-MAX in commercial theaters), the second time in Dolby Cinema. I still think about the movie a lot, from its deep intricate plot, its awesome characters and dialogue, its amazing art direction, and its stupendous Roger Deakins cinematography. Easily one of the best movies I've ever seen but it does have pacing issues.

9/10

Also it flopped at the box office due to the stupidity of the average human and the dumbing down of society filled with idiots who would rather see an awful Transformers movie over anything that would remotely require some deep thought and introspection.

I'm inclined to agree. I thought it was fantastic and did the original justice.

I was genuinely surprised, big-budget sci-fi has personally been letting me down the last few years, but this was actually pretty good.

Nothing beats the original though, I'm actually glad they didn't bother to try and top or match the "Tears in the Rain" monologue, because it's one of the most legendary and riveting moments in movie history that they knew people would give them crap if they tried.

Both Aliens and T2 kinda changed the original formulas a bit by making the sequels a lot more action oriented. Alien and Terminator were more suspense (former more horror) than straight up action like their sequels. So not exactly apple to apple IMO.

I thought 2049 was alright. Not great certainly not the best sequel I've seen but they did well with what the original given them to work with. Bladerunner wasn't written or made to have a continuation and that's very apparent in the original movie.

@bmanva:

I guess my point was they are by most accounts terrific sci-fi sequels, as I was replying to a guy who said 2049 was the best sci-fi sequel ever. Whether they were more action-oriented or not was irrelevant to my reply. Just stating some others in consideration, sure there are others I'm forgetting.

Aliens and T2 are great movies but not really examples of better sequels. IMO Alien 3 is better sequel to the original Alien than Aliens even if it's a worse movie.

I just am the biggest fan of Ryan Gosling movies. I watched it on the premier and loved it. I have watched it 10 times now. As I was searching for more movies of Ryan Gosling. I found his really cool Blade Runner coat which he used in the movie too. I ordered and it's amazing stuff and the delivery time was a week and it did come in time.

i can't rate it since i didn't like the first movie and most likely won't see this one. But its critical reception only proves that Ridley Scott should no longer direct movies and let someone else do it. Had Ridley directed 2049 like Prometheus and Covenant, it would have been terrible.

It has Ryan in it, that says it all.

But other than that it was a poor attempt and it failed to capture the atmosphere and character that made BladeRunner such a great movie.
