I have stumbled upon a website detailing a party who strongly support the R18+ classification for Australian's

http://www.gamers4croydon.org

I think we all need to get behind this movement, and work towards bringing it to the National level. We need to make sure us gamers get correct representation in the Government in this matter.

Get on the website and check it out, also check out the top right section of the website that lets you contact your local MP, you can either shoot them your own email, or use a pre-written letter, created by the people of the Gamers4Croydon movement, which argues the point VERY strongly.

The one man standing in the way of thisR18+ ratingis a man who seems more concerned with controlling the Australian people, even reffering to gamers as criminals, stating on gamespot.com.au:"I assume the Gamers4Croydon campaign will involve criminal activities and dirty tricks, which is what I've come to expect from gamers," he is clearly letting a personal bias get in the way of his duties and responsibilities to the Australian people.

Support your fellow gamers, but most importantly, let the Government know your opinion. The only way we are going to get thisR18+ ratingto be pushed through, is by National recognition, it's time us gamers stop taking the crap and stand our ground.

Thank you.

Note: I was unable to use the word "C.lassification", so i replaced the word with "R18+ rating"

I thought there already is a 18+ CIassification.

Or is that for another rating system?

Yep. Here in Australia the government don't think adults are able to make their own entertainment decisions and thus the highest level of classification here is MA15+. Anything that doesn't fit that rating is changed or banned.

It stems from an archaic way of thinking that games are only for kids, and somehow having an 18+ rating would allow kids to play games like an uncensored Left for Dead 2 which would somehow warp there minds or something.

Either way it's ridicious, and it would really make a difference if people from other countries helped our cause! We are all gamers here. Gotta stick up for each other :D

I can't believe they haven't created the 18+ rating already. It's like banning R-rated movies.

Along with opposing the R18+ classification, I also support the banning of rock & roll, alcohol, women showing ankles or bare shoulders in the media, and Big Red bubblegum (a product of which contains a scandalously spicy flavor).

They think their citizens are old enough to make their own decisions, yet they've been the first government to really push for internet censorship. Gotta love consistency.

I feel sorry for Australians, you guys have the most puritanical, censorship-obsessed government out of any democratic nation. Really, only Iran, Saudi Arabia, and China have you guys beat. I mean, let's look at what the Australian government considers sensible censorship:

- Internet censorship of any fetish porn (even some normal porn) sites, fringe political/religious sites, and any other sites that the government feels are "offensive" (such as abortion sites, drug use sites, and sites that leaked the blacklist and thus completely blew away Conroy's argument that the blacklist was purely benign)
- Hentai/cartoon porn nets you the same prison sentence as posession of child pornography (some guy recently got 20 years for having Simpson's porn on his computer IIRC)
- Pornography with adult women who have A-cup breasts is treated the same as child pornography, no matter how old the women are. Ironically this means that any small breasted woman who takes naked photos of herself would be charged with posession/distribution of child porn in Australia.
- Video games not suitable for 15 year olds in Australia are banned

I'm glad to live in a country where something like the regulation of violent games by the government is many times illegal.(Salutes the American flag while eating a slice of apple pie)

Well I don't know if you have heard the Attourneys Generals are meeting friday on R18+ for games but they are intending to only allow the rating provided we can't buy from overseas anti r rating groups like video group want no r rating at all and are petitioning to stop it. If we cannot buy from overseas it means they are free to edit games still so we won't know they have been by introducing a ban on purchases overseas, this is nothing but communistic dictatorship actions against our freedoms as adults. Also they will not re-release previously banned games either and will still not allow them to be bought from overseas. This sucks, please help with a new petition, spread the word and ask others to help, like EB Games, etc...
