Question about asians in Disney's Star Wars

First Admiral Statura in TFA, Chirrut / Baze / Bodhi in Rouge One,Then Rose & Her sis in The Last Jedi.

Is it because to please Asian markets for better BO? Never seen asian chars in any SW movies before.Curious but happy they are amongst major casts?

Probably, since Star Wars is starting to become more widespread there. Also, TLJ is that good eh? I'll watch it tomorrow! Will be my 1st time watching a Star Wars movie in theaters as well.

Don't worry about it, this isn't even part of the story, and its so minor you wont care. Its a shitty side-story because Disney owns it, they have to create some sort of prince/princess love story.

i personally wanted poe and finn to be together. Even the actress who plays Rose ships them together.

White is not the default position of a Star Wars characters, never. Seeing an Asian person shouldn't trigger you, unless you're a dolt. Unless you hate diversity itself. Sorry to break it to you, Star Wars is for everyone to enjoy and if you really were "all for "diversity" you would celebrate Asians getting prominent roles in the films. If you take issues with the actress performance, that could be a valid discussion. If you took issues with the writing, that could be a valid discussion. But suspicion and for the mere audacity of the film makers to include minorities in prominent roles just reeks of some pathetic, thinly veiled racist nonsense.

I never took Rose & Finn as a cool relationship but when Rose got to know more of Finn, she really likes him. We seen her saving Finn and before she passed out, she kiss him because she really cares for him. That kinda surprises me because Finn actually likes Rey and unless Disney is moving away from Finn/Rey relation, then I can go by Rose cause she's cool in a good way.

Lol, are we seriously observing for minorities for their level of acting role now? We can't just observe characters as people but we have to judge Hollywood on any absence for the color of skin?..the fact anyone would notice shows their agenda, you guys are fckerd up bunch, the types that always crying if minorities, women, fat people, little people..etc are not among the main cast and screaming racism about it.

Personally, I would never have payed any further attention of a character being asian or whatever, rather it's about the character's personality and how it's involved in the movie itself

The Chinese/asian market is much bigger than the American/Euro market.

I just got back from seeing it...yes, I enjoyed it quite a bit. Sure there are things to complain about, but overall I was very entertained by it!

Yeah. From what some people have told me the characters are poorly written and just plain stupid I haven't seen TLJ but the "good guys" are responsible for most of the rebel alliance deaths apparently how am I supposed to root pure incompetance.

Star Trek TV shows did the whole diversity thing better. I did not care that Janeway was a woman she was a strong character, Sisqo from DS9 did not care he was black he was a great leader. Now they're shoe horning diverse characters in movies, games or whatever and they stereotyped to hell or just boring. I just want good characters.

Nah. It was pretty good IMO. Has a high critic score and decent user score at sites that weren't botted.

It's pandering to the Chinese market. It's a vastly untapped market in which Hollywood is just beginning to recognize. Unfortunately Chinese wouldn't know a good movie anymore than the mainstream American audience (less than IMO) considering their highest selling box office is Wolf Warrior 2 (to the tune of over $800 million) , a literal shit pile of a film.

And no, the addition of Rose's character is shit, it's poorly executed and feels unnaturally forced as hell.

Speaking as an Asian-American, I’d rather just be allowed to blend into society and not see each race getting credited with participation trophies just for having a part in a film like it’s the damn race-Olympics. This is all about the dollars and Disney is merely catering to the Chinese market for mass profit....they did not do this for diversity’s sake, they want the money. Yay for progress, but it’s not like this is done out of the goodness of some corporation’s heart lol.

A few facts about Star Wars:

• George Lucas originally wrote Star Wars as a sci-fi remake of a Japanese film, Akira Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress.
• Star Wars is heavily based on Japanese culture, from the word "Jedi" (from the jidai-geki genre of Japanese cinema) and Darth Vadar's Samurai-like outfit, to the light sabers (based on Katana) and the Kendo-like fighting style.
• Lucas originally wanted Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune (star of The Hidden Fortress and other Kurosawa classics) to play Darth Vader, but Mifune turned down the film.

This raises some questions with regards to casting. Since Lucas originally wanted Toshiro Mifune to play Darth Vader (a.k.a. Anakin Skywalker), then he may have also originally considered casting Asian actors for the roles of Luke Skywalker and/or Princess Leia (since, you know, that plot twist). And the final film may have ended up more like a sci-fi rendition of Japanese jidai-geki films, an alternate Star Wars to what we ended up with.

Star Trek had Asians as far as it's launch. No one complained until recently with Discovery having Michelle Yeoh, similar to how people complained with Star Wars and Donnie Yen, despite being the most badass character in Rogue One.

It must be exhausting to watch a movie and care more about the skin color of the actor playing a character, rather then the role the character is playing in the movie's plot.

Shit movie. Awkward "romance". Almost as bad as episode 2 romance.
