Strictly limiting the criteria to comic books, Marvel has a better variety of quality stories from many different superheroes. That said, DC has the following (among others):
Stan Lee and Jack Kirby made a colossal success with Marvel characters which is the most important part of comics. If the characters do not have emotional backstories, the stories they are involved in would be unappealing which might be why many superhero fans empathize with Batman's story of vengeance due to loss instead of Superman's story of American patriotism due to loss.
All the publishers have both good and bad comics. It comes down to the authors and the artists who work for them, not the publishers overall.
