In my mind these are the top 2 heavyweights when it comes to drama.
Since I haven't seen The Wire all the way through YET I'm going with Answer 3.
How about you guys?

Did you see the most recent episode "Blood Money"?
I can't imagine anyone who has followed the series being bored with that episode.
I haven't seen that episode. I doubt that one episode will sway me.[QUOTE="AFBrat77"][QUOTE="AbstractRadical"]I am glad that Breaking Bad is ending, it has started to bore me.AbstractRadical

I haven't seen that episode. I doubt that one episode will sway me. The episode has a moment that has been building up since the very first episode. If that doesn't hook you back in, then nothing will.Breaking Bad is amazing but The Wire is the best. Season 4 of The Wire alone is the best thing I have ever seen on TV. It is real, sad, and uplifting all at the same time. Also, the biggest complait that I have about Breaking Bad is that it feels small. The conflicts in that show only seems to involve a small group of people.

exactly, this last episode is my 3rd favorite BB episode ever
Dexter.

I've see every episode of Dexter (I do like the show) but I can't see it being anywhere near being on the lofty level with BB.
In fact when both shows were on this past Sunday, it was BB I was enthused about, even with you-know-who showing up at the end of the last Dexter episode.
The Wire, Deadwood, and The Sopranos are all far better Six Feet Under, though very flawed, means a lot more to me actually I'd say it's not even one of the two best shows currently running - I prefer Game of Thrones and Mad MenWolfattheDoor34
I disagree on Deadwood, Sopranos, and Six feet Under, and I've seen every episode of each of those. I think Mad Men is good but overrated.
I'll reserve judgement on The Wire til I finish the series, since I'm only halfway through.
But the others mentioned? nah, not quite, though each had their moments.
I did like HBO's Rome alot though.
I've said it before, but a more fitting comparison would be Breaking Bad and the Shield/The Sopranos and The Wire.sammyjenkis898

This. I cannot understand why The Wire is praised so much. I watched the first 2 seasons of it very recently and it is just a slightly above average show to me. It may show crime/ police beuracracy in a realistic manner, but that does not make it an entertaining show at all. In the first 2 seasons at least, I was bored out of my mind with that show. It tries to do too many things at once, by focusing on the criminals and the law enforcement beuracracy. The writing, especially for the jokes among the police characters is often just cringe-worthy. The characters are boring to me as well. The cops are just so boring to watch. It's more fun to watch the criminals, but the majority of the show is spent watching cops being boring fighting through their beuracracy. Occasionally when something interesting in the story happens, the show does it in a way that still makes it boring and feel like the plot hasn't developed much. I just don't get why so many people love this show.
From the first 2 seasons of THe Wire, I cannot say it comes even close to meeting up with the quality of Breaking Bad. Does The Wire miraculously get good starting with season 3 or something? Otherwise I have no interest in watching more of it. I've found the Sopranos to be waaaaaaay better than the Wire. Oz is also much better. Even the Shield is way better, although that show gets a bit formulaic/repetive after awhile.

What's your favorite drama?
The Wire and Breaking Bad are 1A and 1B for meSorry was looking at this on my phone and I mixed up option 4 and 5Â :?
As tempted as I am to compare the two due to the existence of this desire to see Breaking Bad win over The Wire every time this discussion comes up, I can't help but think apples and oranges.
The Wire is more documentary-like, realistic, and ambitious in scope, focusing (for the most part) on groups of people working together on their own piece of the organism that Baltimore is depicted as.
Breaking Bad is more ambitious photographically, rides a fine line between realism and ridiculousness, and is smaller in scope, focusing (for the most part) on Walt and those who immediately surround Walt.
Personally, I would go with BB over TW anytime because I could easily ease into an episode of BB while I struggle to even get TW started whenever the idea of re-watching that series is at the back of my mind. In addition to that, I interpret things a lot more differently every time I watch BB all the way through as opposed to feeling as though I'm getting a better understanding of a more specific message every time I watch TW all the way through. That last part is something I definitely feel is reflected when I read or watch interviews with Vince Gilligan and David Simon: as far as I can tell (because it's been a while since I've checked out an interview with Simon about TW -- I might be wrong about this by the way) Gilligan appears more open to having people interpret the work their own way while Simon has this tendency to explain what it is he meant to convey through the work.
There's other stuff too. For example, I've never cared so much for a cast of characters on a TV show as much as I've cared for the characters on BB. Then there's the way the show goes from being like a small independent film in it's first season to something that I think is appropriate to call "epic" in its fifth season (even if it's nowhere near as epic as TW). It's, at the same time, hard to believe it's the same show while undeniably being the same show when you compare early episodes with late episodes. I know I could say a lot more, but I'll save you all from that and end this by saying that I feel BB is its own tradition with its own story, its own deities, and its own artifacts for big fans like myself to really enjoy and worship and think about on a daily basis as I try to interpret what that piece of work ultimately means to me.
I've never cared so much for a cast of characters on a TV show as much as I've cared for the characters on BB.ernie1989
I know a lot of people must feel this way, but it absolutely baffles me
I might say the opposite: I've never cared so little for so many characters after watching so much of a show

Yeah. It gets to a point when one has to decide on one thing or the other based on their own likes or dislikes as opposed to a set of standards that goes beyond oneself. Right now I'm on the third season of The Shield and I'm struggling to care about some of the characters.
The Wire is far better than Breaking Bad. I really don't get why people are so ballistic over BB. It's decent at best. Sure, it does have the occasional brilliant episode, but I can barely stay awake watching others.
As for the Wire, well I was hooked on it all the way through. Amazing show.
Excellent choiceMad Men. Love that show, you can watch an episode 3 times and still find stuff you didn't notice before.

Excellent choiceYeah, season 6 finale was pretty awesome probably my second favorite and easily my favorite episode of the season.[QUOTE="cain006"]

It's funny how crazy into the show people get though. For instance Megan was wearing a shirt that Megan Tate famously wore and were saying that she was going to get brutally murdered late in the season or next season. Obviously they were wrong.
Finally been watching Breaking Bad, on season 2. Awesome show. Still have to watch The Wire.chessmaster1989
Oh my, keep going....Season 3 and 4 of BB are much better even. And Season 5 has been great as well, particularly the latest episode "Blood Money".
I did love Season 2 of BB though. Put the titles of the 4 episodes with the strange debris in the pool together and you get a message. Genius!
Well, we are tied guys, great stuff!
I think season 2 of BB is easily the show's peakWolfattheDoor34
3
2 was great but I think 3,4, and 5 are better. Most think (including Rotten Tomatos critics) that the show has gotten better each season.
I liked 3 the best and I think the last 2 episodes of that season are the best in the series ("Half Measures" and "Full Measure").
Easily? I don't think so, though again I liked Season 2 alot.

ohh yeah that was deffs a good episode. im not sure weather i like walter white anymore. he used to be somewhat likeable but now i reailze hes just a **** ass hole and a liar who really only cares about himself lol
I like Boardwalk, but you can't even put Buscemi in a top 10 list of greatest TV performances. On topic, it's tough to compare the two shows as they aim for and exceptionally succeed at two different things. As of right now The Wire is still my favorite show all in all. But if Breaking Bad ends with a Shield-tier ending, then I may have a new favorite come the end of September. I'd also lump in Deadwood in the mix. I just really wish it had a fourth season.Boardwalk Empire.

Steve Buscemi playing nucky is the best acting I have ever seen, tv or movie.
