I've always thought that the Pixies minimalist sound owed a lot to post-punk bands such as Joy Division and the Smiths. You might want to check out Music Map to see who is close to them in sound.

If you like the Pixies you'll probably dig...

fIREHOSE, Husker Du, (more recent) Sonic Youth, (early) Modest Mouse, The Breeders, Dinosaur Jr. The Feelies, Violent Femmes, Throwing Muses, (early) The Lemonheads and maybe even Pere Ubu.

That is good. I lose all musical respect to anyone who can listen to Saeglopur and not like them.

I watched about 20 seconds of it. I would rather have been rickrolled.

Ha, I did the exact same thing a little while ago, but I only bought Where Is My Mind, not Surfer Rosa. The only Pixies I album I have is Doolittle and I really like it. Give that a try.

If you're looking for more awesome stuff from the Pixies, I strongly recommend getting Doolittle. It's a great album and one of their best. I know that you didn't care for the whole album you bought, but Doolittle is really well done.

The obvious artists I'd list here for transitions into alternative would be Everclear, Nirvana (duh), Beck, Butthole Surfers (listen with caution), and probably Deftones. There are more but these are the main ones that I think of in comparison to Pixies.
