If you use S-Hooks for your pets rabies tags/other tags, i really suggest you switch to something else.

Was making a pizza and my Aussies were rough-housing like normal. all seemed well. until i heard one of them whining. so i looked up and saw that Skylar was really close to Ava, and they were frantic.

At first i thought Skylar had her jaw stuck in Ava's collar, we've had that happen once before. So i rushed over there to fix the situation.

But what i came to was so much worse. The S-Hook (that their rabies tag is connected to) from Avas collar was in Skylars eyelid. Thank god we have quick release collars. i was able to snap both collars off quickly.

But the S-Hook had got stuck in Sky's bottom eyelid, even protruding out further down, like a fish hook. I had to cut Ava's collar so the whole thing wasnt just dangling from Sky's eyelid.

WARNING- image of the tag stuck in her eyelid:http://i.imgur.com/0JP5HfM.jpg

We have since taken her to the vet, she is doing fine, we got some meds and her eye wasnt scratched at all.

Just throwing out this warning so this doesnt happen to your dog/s.

also found this while reading up on S-Hooks: http://forum.eskie.net/index.php?topic=10278.0;wap2

So it has happened before, and should be of concern to pet owners.

My dog use to have one, and one morning he didn't come to greet me. I ended up finding him stuck to the living room carpet. No idea how long he was stuck there, but luckily he was fine after we got the collar off.

I'm not even sure of what that is, so I guess I'm in the clear.

My girlfriend took our cat's collar off a few years ago and she became a different cat. I've never believed in pets wearing collars all day long.

Good to know. My dog just got his shots today and I was about to put the rabies tag on his collar.

I'm glad things weren't worse than they could have been. I usually get the split ring for my tags anyways as they are easier to put on. I don't leave collars on 24/7 either, only when they go for a walk. Otherwise we have a penned in back yard for them to go out.

S-Hook. a way of attaching dog tags to their collar. http://amernameplate.com/images/dogtag2.jpg

I'm glad the dogs are okay. If I meet any dog owners with S hooks or thinking of getting S hooks, I'll let them know.

Had to Google, seems a strange thing to use for that purpose! We don't have rabies tags here as it isn't really a thing in the UK but our dog tags just go on keyring hoops.

Glad your dog is OK though, could have been much worse!
