“Currently I’m working with the World Health Organization and they actually came up with a statement” on hearing loss, he said. “Remember, they only get involved in pandemics — Zika virus, E. coli, AIDS and now hearing loss. And they’re predicting over a billion ... young people around the world will be losing hearing in the next 15 years because of devices and loud concerts and loud gaming and all that.”

I started wearing earplugs religiously in my teens. Between band practice, concerts, and walkman; my hearing was getting noticably worse. There is a ringing in my ears to this day, but I only notice when it's quiet.

I went to sooo many punk/rock concerts and raves in the late 80's and early 90's that my ears ring permanently now, too. I have to keep some kind of background noise going, either the TV, radio or a fan. If I sit around in silence it sounds like I have alien tuning forks in both my ears. It's enough to drive a man nuts.

Golden.

?

IEMs are dangerous. Most phones i think are required to give warnings based on the volume you are listening at.

Better to live life and enjoy it than constantly worrying every day about something harming or killing you.

I'd rather live to 50 and enjoy every day of my life than live to 100 and be a boring old codger.

Hasn't this prediction been made steadily since the 1960s?

And you people (especially PC gamers) claim your headphones are better than speaker systems. I'm glad I barely have to use them anymore.

Good. Maybe people can stop complaining about how modern music is terrible.

Better for people around them.

That would generate acute hearing loss. Lots of noise levels that are/were considered safe for years turns out to be not so good for you if you are affected by it for hours every day.

My hearing is worse. I need to put my music louder on full blast to enjoy it with my earbuds.

Let's hope that the future brings cybernetic ears that actually gives us super hearing.

@Gaming-Planet:

Thats actually the problem. People dont understand what good sound is. Theyll buy cheap or extra bass amd turn it up way to loud to get the effect they want.

Those cars rolling down the street with the "bass"? Lol shit sounds terrible and most of the time its not even bass.

I love having great ears.

@heirren: I hate anything that has "more bass" or anything that inherently messes with the EQ. The song was mixed and mastered by a professional- I want my speakers and headphones flat and hear it as intended. Those ass holes that drive around with the bass rattling... jesus christ.

I've got tinnitus. I've had it since mid 2017 I wanna say. I noticed it after using an air compressor. Drove me crazy for weeks. Thought it was something in my room I left plugged in for a while.

The spikes are the worst. Usually happens when I'm sick and always in my right ear. Goes on for a few days then settles down. It's like being deaf. You just don't want to function.

When I was in my early teens I didn't wear hearing protection during band practice. I'm a drummer too, so being one of the louder instruments...yeah.

But now I pretty much wear plugs or earmuffs whenever I think it's needed. I'd say my tinnitus came from wearing headphones constantly too. I never had the audio blaring but usually on 30% or so on a PC. If I was playing to a track I'd wear earplugs over headphones and crank the music up just so I could hear it over acoustic drums. Definitely not a good idea though.

I avoid wearing headphones now. Even if it's set on the lowest of volumes long exposure can take it's toll...I think at least.

Well most headphones have a curve to them. Extra bass doesnt really mean yoy cant get good sound from the headphone, and it depends on the manufacturer as well. Sony sells a pair of "extra bass" wired headphones for $30($50msrp) that produce pretty good audio esoecially if further adjusted with an eq.

For example i just recently bought a Wonderboom2 and almost returned it. I knoe it wont produce the best sound--it was incredibly harsh out of the box--but this was something i adjusted through eq software and noe it sounds pretty good.

Sony 7506s are a bargain at $80 if you like balanced sound. In ways i prefer them over the Sennhieser HD600s.

Spent my teen years at punk rock clubs and adult years at too many concerts. My hearing sucks. Sometimes I use it to my advantage and just ignore people when I don't want to deal with them.

I'm 32. Only 18 more years and enjoying every day? Sure, I'll take it.
