What beans do you partake? I just had some pork and beans. Not even close to a favorite meal of mine. However, there are many beans that I enjoy. Do you like beans?

Lemon juice, sugar, minced garlic, minced chilies, fish sauce, preserved salty crab, coriander and spring onions over a mixture of boiled beans is delicious as a side dish.

Dude I freaking looooooooooooove beans.

Super nutritious, high in protein and fiber. I eat beans as a staple pretty much every weak.

I do them a few ways.

  • Roasted garlic dip. Take three cans of white beans (navy, cannelini work well) and drain. Roast a whole head of garlic then squeeze the garlic out. Use a food processor to blend the beans, roast garlic, some olive oil, a bit of rosemary, and a squeeze of lemon juice. Amazing bean dip. Add some hot sauce or paprika if you want.
  • Pork and Beans a la Mr Bojangles. So I make a cider-braised pork with tons of caramlized onions (like no joke I take like 10 onions and cook them down into a brown sugary mass that is about 1/10 its prior size). I Then cook some white beans with a bit of shallot, garlic, and some sauteed chard or kale. I cook it down with a bit of chicken stock and finish with a bit of lemon zest to brighten it up. Put the beans into a shallow bowl then put some of the chopped up braised pork and onions on top. Mmmmmm.
  • Soup! Love beans in soup. I usually go through my fridge and take out all the old produce that is close to going bad--a wrinkled red bell pepper, some onions whose outer layers are funky but the insides are still good, some floppy celery stalks, maybe some soft old carrot--and dice them all up. Saute then add some stock (veggie or chicken doesn't matter). Simmer for a bit then add a few cans of beans (garbonzos, white beans, kidney beans, doesn't matter) then toss in some spicy sausage or ham or something. So good.

Yeah I love beans. They help me shit really nice. Turds look like gnarled pieces of oak.

I used to mess around with dried beans and that was OK, but canned beans are cheap enough and pretty damn good.

What about lentils? I know they're technically slightly different than beans but they're basically the same thing food wise. Love lentils too.

Swear to god if the world ended tomorrow my first stop would be a.) find a big bag of dried beans and b.) get a big bag of rice....also a gun.

Oooooh gonna have to try that out. Does it have a name? I Love fish sauce, so savory and funky.

Not sure where to find salty crab. I wonder if shrimp paste/dried shrimp would work.

@mrbojangles25: It’s basically the Thai Papaya Salad recipe… if you’re gonna make it add a bit of basil leaf too.

You can skip the crab part, but if you’re out to get ingredients they will have it in Chinese or Thai supermarkets.

@DEVILinIRON: It's an old song that was sung for years, even around from my parents time, at least. I just remember this from the Skullmonkeys video game. My favorite version was from an episode of Animaniacs, on a segment of Dot's Poetry Corner:

Beans, beans, the musical fruit.

The more eat, the more they'll throw you off the air if you finish this poem.

Kidney beans, Black beans and Butter beans are what I'm most familiar with. It works out to be super cheap buying canned or dried. You can really stretch out a meal when making use of any kind of starch.

No I detest beans. One of my least liked vegetables. I’m starting to like asparagus though if it’s cooked and a spread of some salt.

I do like me some beans. Eat too little of it though. Only really have it in my chili con carne.

Also doing a hummus from time to time (made from chickpeas, not sure if those are considered beans or not). It goes awesomely with some feta cheese and some ovenbaked carrots with soy and honey.

Not on the top of my list of favorite foods, but sure I like beans. I make chili con carne with red beans, usually with mixed pork and beef that I put on oil for 10 minutes or so, then I add red wine (also tried blackberry wine, it gives a lighter taste). If it's without meat it's basically the same, but without the wine and crazy with cumin.

Does beef in black bean sauce count? If so, then count me in as a bean fan!

Just did some braised chicken with beans!

Seared the chicken, removed from pan. Sauteed some onions and garlic until soft, added some spinach and cooked it down. Deglazed the pan with some white wine, seasoned with thyme and salt and pepper, then added some beans and a bit of chicken stock. Put the chicken back in, covered the pan, and let simmer for 30 minutes.

Served on brown rice with some grated parm on top. Mmmmm tasty.

I like me some beans. Once every few months I soak some dry beans overnight (pinto, black, great northern, doesn't really matter} and make a big pot. Make some cornbread to go with them and a bottle of hotsauce and I'm good for the rest of the week.
