I guess this is true^^. I just don't like the feeling of leaving some of the most beautiful memories and moments behind on Earth. Even though there are a bunch of bad things happening, there is still a lot of beauty on this planet.
I'm like you on that one. People are either saying "what do you think will happen on 2012 December 21?" or "what will you do when December 21, 2012 gets here?". I'm sick of it. When you die then you'll either go to heaven or hell. When judgement day does come, the good people will go to heaven and the bad ones will go to hell and burn FOREVER.

Human tendency is to seek solace and escape fear by creating such ideas as reincarnation. But honestly, if reincarnation did exist, we would never know. Our thoughts and memories in this life would be erased.
There are many answers to this question. Some logical, some illogical, some scientific, some religious. But really, you're more than likely not going to find the correct answer on the off-topic board of a video game forum.

Anyone's speculation about the potential afterlife/whether or not there is an afterlife is equally right or equally wrong. Not one of us knows for sure, so no one is more right or more wrong.

It could just as easily be said that the one who says there is something is fooling himself. No one has experienced true death besides the already deceased.

Don't you mean escape fear and seek solace by creating such things as Heaven? As a believer of reincarnation, I find it a terrifying belief to hold, as I look around at all the horrors capable in our world and think to myself, "....just the luck of the draw....". Ultimately, the situations we find ourselves in this life stem from blind luck, nothing more, and being reborn guarantees nothing. It's a frightening thing to contemplate, and it's not a belief I particularly enjoy holding. Who would wish to live again, especially as a freakin' cow in a slaughterhouse waiting for its throat to be cut?

And then what's to become of our consciousness after death if we lose it for good? The 'nothing' the TC (and you) implied in the post was clearly this.
It's not really all that irrational as you claimed.
I think the biggest problem in this whole notion is the semantics of it all. We all know what death is, but NOBODY can define nothingness. The human mind can't comprehend it.
Is it just pure white or black and silent? It doesn't matter. That's still SOMETHING.
Nobody wants life to simply end. Other than the obivious fear of death in this case the thing people fear more than anything else is the unknown. Sadly, anyone who's moved on from this this life isn't exactly in the position to tell us what happens. Perhaps this in itself is an answer?
No one knows. Unfortunately, when you finally find out...for one reason or another...you won't be able to tell anyone.
Now that I think about it, I don't fear death, I fear the process and transition while dying. Letting go of everything ever known and felt is going to be very frightening. Who knows, maybe I'll be slammed head on by a bus and forgo the entire process.
