Well the only reason I listen to them is for Emma Pollock. Her voice is beautiful. I don't like indie rock that much either. Just something else to listen to besides heavy rock.

Every band has at least a small cult following somewhere.

As for most obscure bands I enjoy, Unexpect, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Amiina,The Gathering, Gordian Knot,Howling Bells, Beirut... and others.

I don't know who to list really, as I'm desensitized to the popularity of many bands I love, I'm sure there are people who consider Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Regina Spektor, Tom Waits, John Zorn, Metric, Stars, and Blonde Redhead underground and unknown, but to me they're totally well known. So, it's hard for me to say. Generally I don't honestly care how well known an artist is, that has nothing to do with their quality.
