Anyone live in or around there? Any cool things I should do besides classic tourist stuff? Anything I should NOT do or places I should NOT go?

I have heard anything east of the capitol is bad news. I will be working a little north of there.
I hope you enjoyed voting, because you don't get to anymore.
Also, I heard DC is pretty great. Â I had a roommate (two, actually) from DC and they loved it. Â A lot of culture, big hipster scene though lol. Â And don't worry about the "bad" parts, just get a car alarm for when you park your car, get the hell out of there before the sun goes down, and don't be a punk.
Lots of good beer, too, from what I've heard.
For night life...Logan Circle and DuPont Circle area have good bars. A lot of good new places along 14th street (between W street and around P street).
Another really fun area is Georgetown waterfront (called Washington Harbour). Neat bars/restaurants for day or night. There are also cruises on the Potomac from Georgetown to Old Alexandra. Old Alexandra is also really neat. dc-cruises.com

If he gets a place in Maryland or Virginia, he can still vote. Even if he gets a place in DC, he can vote for a President (3 electoral votes), just not Senators or Representatives.Â

If you rent you can always just claim your home state residency. That's what a lot of people do in DC (and why it's 95% democrat when it comes to elections). Please Log In to post.
