I was recently rewatching Doctor Strangelove and Lolita, both Kubrick films. The performance from Peter Sellers in both movies playing different characters is outstanding and it left me thinking in other movies in which an actor appears in more than one role and nails it https://vlc.onl. Only examples I can think of recently are Moira Kelly in Chaplin albeit in smaller scale, and more recenty Paul Dano in There Will Be Blood, but what other movies do you know where this happens and it just works perfectly?

John Rhys-Davies played both Gimli and Treebeard in Lord Of The Rings.

Peter Sellers was pretty much the first that came to mind.

Nicholas Cage in Adaptation.

Charlie Chaplin in The Great Dictator.

James McAvoy in Split, thought he did a great job with his various split personalities. Dr Strangelove takes the cake on the subject IMO.

There is a few movies Eddie Murphy does this, it's the whole shtick/premise/appeal of the movie.

I want to say also Mike Myers in the Austin Powers series. And I believe Tom Hardy played twins in a recent drama.

Eddy Murphy plays multiple rolls in a couple of his movies. One is Coming to America 1+2 and the Nutty Professor.

Jackie Chan in Twin Dragons, and Jean Claude Van Damme in Double Impact.

Masterpieces, both of them.

@judaspete: Remember watching that strip search scene in Double Impact with the butch lady, and it always made me feel funny as a kid.

I get it now. It was sexual.

@uninspiredcup: Ha! That was Cory Everson. There was a fitness show on ESPN with her and Kiana Tom that I think may have been what caused me to start puberty.

Well, off the top of my head:

Austin Powers movies

Nutty Professor movies

Norbit

Twin Dragons

Double Impact

Gemini (if the counts)

....that's it lol. I mean I can see other movies in my mind, just can't think of their names....

Eddie Murphy does this all the time. The ones you mentioned, but also Norbit, Bowfinger, Meet Dave, Vampire In Brooklyn, etc.

I totally forgot this, but Micheal J Fox played both Marty's son and daughter in Back to the Future 2.

Winona Ryder plays two characters in Dracula, though very brief.

The only thing I can think of is The Wizard of Oz (1939), where an actor has played the role of five or six characters.

Not that I'm a fan of them but Tyler Perry does the same thing at least some (if not all, but I'm too lazy to look) Madea movies.

Same. I watch them occasionally, but not a big fan. I like Perry most when he's not in Madea character. But hey, that character (and savvy business skills) paved the way for him to be a billionaire!
