Would you like to see more racial diversity in gamespots reviewer and presenter team. Gaming is enjoyed by many races so this should be reflected in their media team. Amiright?

I think it should just stick to western culture and not multiculturalism since it leaves a mess.

I don't care who they get to review things. A persons race will have no bearing on whether I like a review or not.

Good point, but still should be some diversity.

Again this is a question for the staff and not for the forums.

Like jpl has pointed out in the other thread this isn't really important.

EDIT: I'll leave this open to discussion but I don't feel this is the best idea.

they should hire whatever applicants are best at the job. They shouldn't hire people just to add sprinkles of racial diversity.

This by 100 miles. Racial diversity quotas are fucking stupid, especially when it comes to professionalism, whether it's job applicants or video game reviewers. Merit and experience are what's important.

I think woman is more of an issue, as with news anchors, the males can quite happilly look like sloth from the Goonies while the females look like underwear models.

I'd like to see a slight obese 45 year old woman present GameSpot shows, preferably with thick dark rimmed glasses.

Diversity should not play a part in game reviews. A person should be permitted to review games because they are qualified to do so not just because they are different race.

Exactly. Skin color shouldn't be relevant in whether or not someone gets a job, be it a game site or a police department.

I think diversity of culture (or more specifically diversity of opinion/viewpoint) can be useful. For example, many gamers enjoy japanese games but western reviewers aren't likely to understand them as well as the players if they've not much familiarity or appreciation for what's popular among japanese audiences. Culture and race are often linked so a culturally diverse team would probably be racially diverse too (eg, the best person to review japanese games might be someone who is actually from japan and is very familiar with the themes of its games). However that's not always the case, and if the review team is made up of people of different races who all think and act the same then I don't think there's much benefit to that beyond the superficial.

Racially I´m white, to which culture should I belong ? so now let´s narrow it a little bit more, I´m white and I´m Hispanic, to which white hispanic culturalism should I belong ?

Culture and race nowadays have very little to do with each other. So OP´s premise: "to have a different perspective and to represent societies multiculturalism" is flawed.

@Master_Live: not when you consider the context of the first topic and what the OP was implying.

Go ahead and read it along with jpl's response, that was the intention with the thread and probably this one too.

If this topic was posted first it would be different.

I do get to decide if their intention is to put up false implications about how GameSpot recruits people because that is just straight up false. That IS a question you should be asking GameSpot because they would know the answer.... A thread like that would do nothing for the community. Doesn't really create good discussion.

Like of course he could send this question as a pm to other members to the forum. That wasn't the point of what I'm saying.

I'd like to see people best qualified for the position to get it, rather than trying to impose some sort of false "diversity" through pandering to the political correctness crowd.

Being black/female/homosexual doesn't make someone's opinion better or more valuable than someone who is a white male.

Why would race matter for someone WRITING a review? Even then, I prefer they hire someone who's competent at their job instead of force diversity in a work place, especially when it comes to reviewing games....

Reminds me of a guy in high school who refused to believe I was white for some reason. I have an olive skin tone, so I guess that's why he thought so, but I'm not even that dark. Too many dumbasses in this country take race as literally just skin color, when it actually includes your facial features, hair texture and appearance, and generally what country or countries your ancestors originated.

Olive skin tones are common around the Mediterranean. I'm a quarter French and France borders the Mediterranean Sea, so it probably explains my skin color. Only in Minnesota (well, probably in the Dakotas, Wisconsin, and Iowa too) would I be deemed not white for not having the typical paper white skin of a Scandinavian. O_O

Talent should get you the job, not the color of your skin or your belief system. If you do it based on the last part, that's racism.

@gamerguru100: well, to some you are not white unless your skin is white. I remember that asshole schoolmate that called me "brown hispanic" ( was not the term he used but I can´t post it without being warned by the moderators ) when I attended the San Antonio Academy. In his mind being hispanic and actually worse ( in his mind ) being Mexican must immediately meant dark skin, kind of strange taking in consideration that I am much whiter than him, maybe it was because I have dark brown hair and eyes ? go figure.
