Pretty disgusting and stupid ad, but it's also kind of funny. Only Microsoft would make an ad like this. And as someone in the comments said: Under the layer of vomit, there is an even more disgusting layer here: basically they are implying that it's ok to indulge in your perversions even in front of your wife, as long as you can get away with it by using the right product.

MS is desperately trying to get people to use IE8.

It's just an advertisment...calm down man. Meant to be funny, which I thought it was.

I am calm, and I thought it was funny too. But as I said, they're desperate for people to use IE8, and this ad proves it.

It isn't that bad of an ad, it gets your attention. It is a bit misleading though, "porn" mode is available in all major browsers, nothing special about IE 8 here.

I thought it was pretty funny actually, and somewhat realistic. We don't look at flowers on the internet after all

Umm, where is this irrefutable proof that this ad is made by or endorsed by Microsoft?

I didn't see their corporate logo there at all in the video.

Not such a big deal. The PC World URL explains the situation fairly well.

This certainly won't keep me from buying a Windows-based PC.:P

It's funny - a bit crude, but funny.

Calm down, it's just a harmless ad that's supposed to be funny. I found it mildly entertaining at best, but it's still harmless.

I found that ad to be hilarious, and for the most part, quite realistic. As someone said above, we don't look at flowers.

Eh, I didn't really think that was a good ad at all except for the partially bleeped out website name. I've never found vomit humorous at all. If I find it to be anything, it's kind of gross.

Wait, did you just say MS is desperately trying to get people to use IE? IE is the most used web browser in the world, they are not desperate. Plus IE8 is pretty good; a much needed improvement over IE7. As for the ad, I'll admit I cracked a smile when he said the website name. Better than most ads on TV.

It's a wee bit tatty but it's nice to see Microsoft willing to take a risk with their corporate image to reach their market.

Though I don't think that's a real Microsoft ad.

http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

I'll sum up some of the IE data:

January 2006 - 66%

January 2007 - 58.6%

January 2008 - 54.7%

January 2009 - 44.8%

June 2009 - 40.7%

Whatever Microsoft's reasons are for wanting people to use Internet Explorer, I don't think that's the direction they want that number to be moving in.

Also, I should point out a note on their page:

These facts indicate that the browser figures above are not 100% realistic. Other web sites have statistics showing that Internet Explorer is used by at least 80% of the users.

Anyway, our data, collected from W3Schools' log-files, over a five year period, clearly shows the long and medium-term trends.
