It seems that police was called to the scene and they shot the guy a 100 yards from where they actually had to confront him with 6 shots in the back. That seems like overkill...

We should just be friends already lol!
Wow! Another black child gunned down by the cops. Lunged at them? No cop has made that lie up before. What black male, or child would lunge at a cop, When A. the Cops already have their hand on their gun, and B. black males are getting shot left, and right by the police. Cops don't talk to a black man without touching their guns, at least I have never seen this. Even when dropping off my kids at school when they come to my car to say move it along, they always grab the gun when I poke my head out.
You can imagine me giving them the wazzzzzzzz up, tongue out, and quickly, yes officer this is my car lol.
By the way Overkill would be a shot in the air, this is down right murder. Whats the point of having bean bag guns, mace and tasers if you don't use them?
Sounds legit. When a black man cosplays with a toy sword and he runs backwards to lunge at you, you've got no choice but to shoot him. The 6 times was because Mugen is hard to kill.
So far seems like things are being looked into as they should. Will wait for results of the investigation before passing judgment on the officers decision.
A blunted katana looks just like a real katana. Calling it a toy sword is a purposeful attempt to obfuscate the reader of the article, and the thread.
I expect nothing less from the TC.

Very nice spin there Ride, calling a real but blunt Katana for a toy-sword just to make it seem like all cops in america are racist pricks who are just out to shoot every black guy they see.
Particular when its so far from the actually truth.
There's just so much freedom these days.

What if he was heading to or from a class that used said blunted Katana, for example Kenjutsu. This is ridiculously excessive and I hope this murder is answered for.
Hell even if he was cosplaying, what gives the officers the right to end this mans life if he wasn't acting threateningly. This is just disgusting.

I made no other statement except to say that it's purposefully misleading to call a blunted katana a toy sword. Don't respond to me with things I didn't even speak about.
it's still a toy, it's not a real sword...
It is a real sword. It's just blunted. Wow, you really do like to spin everything so long as it makes America and/or Police look bad.

What does that have to do with you misrepresenting things? You're calling a REAL SWORD a TOY SWORD because it's blunted. Do you not see how dishonest that is?

No its not a toy sword its a real katana just blunt and made to be on display as a vanity-symbol. Also its said that he didn´t make a prop katana but he bought it in an asian shop and those things are real metal just blunt and made in the shape of a katana.
it's still a toy, it's not a real sword...

Well considering it was the_last_ride conducting the spin, and not the Police, what other take away was I supposed to get from your post?
@Jacanuk: so that still justifies 6 shots in the back?
Yes, if that what it took to make the situation secure. After all he didn't run around with a piece of rubber shaped like a katana, he ran around with a real metal katana dressed up as some kind of lunatic "ninja" (Yes i know he might have been cosplaying, but the cops probably didn't know it) Also its not like the cops had time to stop up and ask, "sorry guy who are coming at me with a katana is that real or just for cos-play"
It might seem a lot but noone here has been in the situation or even know more than what a news article says, so i won't question it until more proof is on the table. But i had to comment on the spin. Because saying toy-sword makes it sound like he had a plastic sword and the cops where insane.

TC is not American?
Anyway, cops are envious of young black males. To them, they see potential millionaires via sports and music.
In TC's defense, the term "toy sword" is used in the article. And no, a vanity sword is not a blunted sword, it's a strip of metal that in most cases has none of the process it takes to forge a real sword...it's more like a brittle metal baseball bat than "a real sword". At one point I had quite a few display swords and some of the ones I saw for sale at Asian shops weighted so little you could drop it on your foot top first and it wouldn't even bruise you. I actually saw one of them break from a fall...
Of course there are the real deal but not many people are going to spend thousand of dollars for a real dulled katana just to take to a cosplay event.
There's just so much freedom these days.

That depends on the exact circumstances of why he was shot, which is still under investigation. I don't expect to be shot for carrying an X-Acto knife to arts and crafts, but I sure as hell expect to be shot if I lunge at an officer with that knife. Whether or not he had a valid reason for having the sword is irrelevant, what matters is how he acted while carrying the sword. Maybe he did nothing wrong, or maybe the cops were totally justified in shooting him, people need to shut the hell up and wait to see how the investigation turns out.

but I don't blame you guys, In a place where guns are legal I would be trigger happy as a cop as well. Especially when a lot of people don't have any money because socialism is seen as communism. So socialism is bad.
Americans amaze me all the time. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against the usa but you should really do something about your social structures to avoid this kind of situations.

Me being a cop has nothing to do with what I said. Dave isn't a cop and he has the same concern. The TC, and the article, are calling something a toy when it clearly isn't. A toy sword, to me, is something like this. A blunted, metal katana isn't a toy and it doesn't look like a toy.
You guys are all taking that as to be some type of excuse for what the police did. It's not. It's a criticism of the TC and the article. Nothing more.

Again, this has nothing to do with what I've been saying. You need to learn how to read. You're making yourself look like an idiot.
I have no opinion, right now, with regards to what the Police did in this case. My posts have been solely directed at the obfuscation by the TC and the article. Calling a blunted katana a toy sword is misrepresenting what the item actually is. That is my issue with the TC. If you continue to respond to me regarding something I'm not even talking about, I'm going to continue to point out your abysmal reading comprehension and laugh.

Doesn't matter if it's a real sword or not. You don't need 6 shots to bring a guy down with a katana. Who in the right mind attacks with a katana anyway, like the didn't knew the cops had guns? But I can understand, in these kind of social systems that you're more edgy. It's more of 'every man for himself' and that reflects in everything. Also in conflicts with civilian and police.
If i'd live there and was a cop. I would shoot first and aks questions later as well, if I feel threatened. The difference is here we don't feel threatened like you do , because we're simply more social in our ways and in our thinking.

I don't know how many more ways I can tell you this: I am not saying anything about why the man was shot, or if the Police are in the right or in the wrong. Are you following so far? @evildead6789: You should read his posts better. He's just saying that calling it a toy sword is wrong. He has said nothing about the police being in the right by shooting him 6 times =)
Yeah, air seems very clear in what's he's sayung and not saying.
And although the article does use the term toy, the tc still has a responsibility to present a clearer picture of events.

This.
Also, a blunted Katana likely will still have a good point on the blade that could easily stab someone. And unless there is video proof of the situation, it's all a bunch of hearsay.
I'd guarantee if this were a non-minority person, there wouldn't have even been an article.

You can call me stupid and sometimes I probably am, but today my mind is crystal clear.
A blunted katana is not per se a toy sword but it's certainly not a real sword. You could call it an ornament or something but they sell toy swords that look like real katana's as well.
But that's all besides the point. Taking words out of context to warp what you have said doesn't change the fact that you mentioned that a blunted katana looks like a real katana, as an argument in favor of the police. With good reason, there are always two sides of the story and you're the police yourself in the usa. Stories like this reflect bad on you as well, one story can only do so much, but this isn't the only story that questions the police in the usa.
It doesn't change the fact that a guy with a blunt sword got shot, in the back, 6 times. A taze would have incapacitated the guy just fine. Mistakes like that could happen here in europe as well but they happen a lot less, for the reasons I previously mentioned.
it's still a toy, it's not a real sword...
