I have recently heard about "lucid" dreaming, the ability to know you are dreaming while you are actually dreaming, allowing you to manipulate the alternate reality of your dream world to whatever it is you want. I've heard it to be used for several different reasons such as to stop nightmares, conquer fears in a controlled environment, and expand creative thinking. Can anyone here actually make their dreams "lucid"? If so, how were you able to learn and what is the experience like?

The best way to get into is to experience sleep paralysis which is, for me, and awesome thing. A lot of people think it is scary, but worth it since almost always, once again for me, you will enter lucid dreaming. Just imagine Grand Theft Auto, except you.

It happened to me once, about a year ago. I had a dream about a vacation I was about to go on, and then I realized, "I haven't left yet," and then I magically reappeared in the airport. Then I woke up.

This is probably THE best site for anything related to lucid dreaming or dreaming in general.

Happens to me once in a while, it always takes a while for me to get my bearings afterwards because I dream a full day, then wake thinking I lost that day.

There is a way to encourage Lucid Dreams. To be quite honest, I don't find them all that enjoyable. There is something I like about dreams being random and chaotic. Whenever I have lucid dreams, a lot of the allure dies. The random sequence of obscure events and the obvious chronological flaws in my dreams become all to apparent and I find myself thinking "meh, its just a dream". And the ability to affect the outcome of the dream is like watching a movie where you already know the end. On the other hand random dreaming feels real. You don't know you are dreaming and all the illogical impossibilities that occur seem logical and very possible within the context of the dream. You dont question the fact that you were just a pig and now you are a bird. You dont question that you started the dream 20 y.o. and are now 5 y.o. That credibility is what makes dreams exciting imo :D

Have a look at this website, that's where I learned. They have a great message board, too.

IF you want Lucid Dreaming. Just take a Table Spoon or two of codeine/promethazine syrup or "purple drank" and you will have the best dreams you ever had. Best ****ing dreams i ever had. You wont stay up for more then 30 minutes when you take the stuff.

Dont over do it or try to take the stuff to get high and dont try to stay up, just take a little and just go lay down and you will dream like know other.

I know this guy, who is kind of insane... and he does this almost ever morning.

He said when he wakes up, he will put his head at a wierd angle on his head board, then go back to sleep. He says it works everytime for him, and he was trying to convince me to do that.

I rather not, anyway it sounds sick.

Lucid Dreaming is a very cool thing. I've always had the ability to wake myself up from a nightmare, but actually being able to control things in the dream is very difficult. I first learned aboutlucentdreamingin one my psych classes in college and from there I read some books and tried a few techniques. It's extremly difficult andif you try it be prepared to spend a lot of time on it. But it is real and fun to try to learn a little more about your conciousness. There is a ton of info online about.

I've had two lucid dreams. Years ago, I dreamt that I was in a casino, but it occured to me that I was too young. After that, I was able to fly all around, but it never occured to me to leave (the dream didn't last long anyway).

The second time, I realized that I was in a dream, but I was really lazy. I didn't bother to do anything, instead I just let the dream continue on the way it was headed.

I get it occasionally, but not regularly or often. I enjoy it when it happens, but sometimes I get too excited and wake up.
