Mind would be
I have thought about this before, and to be quite honest, I can't remember a lot of my answers I came up with right this second.
At first I was going to go with Ordinary World by Duran Duran, because as a child that was one of those songs about getting through life and its hassles that stuck with me. I'm not even sure that it's my favorite one of their songs, but it always kind of came to mind. In fact an old Internet buddy deemed that my song once, long ago when we had a conversation about theme songs. I feel like it's still fitting because I think the journey is eternal.
But I thought about it a little more, and maybe another song sticks out in my head.
When I was in elementary school, one of the better moments I remember was the songs our teachers chose for our elementary school graduation ceremony. At first glance they seemed a bit cheesey, but they were really powerful little songs about living a happy life. One of the two I remember seems pretty fitting.
I don't remember all of the lyrics, and a quick Google search didn't tell me where the song came from, or anything about it at all really. But I'd like to share the main verse with all of you, since the song always kind of stirred something within me:
"Hold the memories, keep them nice and clear
Let them stay with you through passing years
Hold the memories, let them never part
Always keep them within your heart." ~
Probably "People" by Andrew Jackson Jihad. I love people but I will be honest I am so damn terrible with people and scared of social interactions with them that I am filled with doubt and all I can do is hope that people like me more than I like myself. The cynical optimism, tempered realism, of the song is also my general outlook on life as well. I am often the first one to say when something sucks, but also the first one to make the best out of the situation.
People are wasteful, they waste all the food
People are hateful, and people are rude
But god I love some people sometimes
Because people are very, very special
And people are impatient, they don't know how to wait
People are selfish, people are prone to hate
But god I love some people sometimes
Because people are the greatest thing to happen
People are people regardless of skin
People are people regardless of creed
People are people regardless of gender
People are people regardless of anything
People are my religion because I believe in them
People are my enemies and people are my friends
I have faith in my fellow man
And I only hope that he has faith in me
@Ovirew: Interesting. After I read the thread title, I came here to mention the same song. Ordinary World is the song my mom associates with me.
You and I must have similar characteristics/life experiences.
Mine would be Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" which is a great end credits song for anybody's life (I love how the Bohemian Rhapsody movie started the end credits with an acapella of this song). Moreover, I find Moby's "Extreme Ways" extremely badass. Gives me chills whenever I hear the song's intro in a Bourne movie.
If I were a professional esports player, though, I would pick the original WCG theme song, "Beyond The Game". I could already imagine the end credits rolling as the song plays.
@plageus900: You know, something I realized is that I find the song even more relatable now in my early 30's than ever.
I think as the years pass and I struggle to be successful and lead an ordinary life, it becomes about just learning how to get through and survive the day to day struggles and put a pin in things at the end of the day.
I've seen the world change so much in just a few short decades, and while it probably wasn't much better in my childhood than it is nowadays, sometimes it does seem like there's something I just can't get back to. You have to brace yourself for all of those letdowns and disappointments. Those sudden, unexpected changes. You have to be adaptable. Because nothing is a guarantee.
