Calibre. Tight thriller. Tony Curran’s in it, he makes every movie good.

Malone - Starts off like a modern western then just gets more and more ridiculous eventually turning into a poor (poor) mans dirty harry.

Entertaining distraction just for the sheer macho stupidity.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - 3/10 ....3 hours of literally nothing waste of time.

Spiderman Far From Home - 4/10 One of the worst Spiderman movies I've seen basically a teenage movie and lots of stupid drones a terrible villain.

This summer has been awful except for end game.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Was pretty satisfied with this one. One of the all-time great westerns. Good humor and original too. Never thought I'd see a western go to South America.

  • Days of Heaven: 6/10
  • Damien: Omen II: 5/10
  • Rocky II: 6/10 [I think I have wrote about this before but I wanna make sure for posterity. The reason why Rocky 1 works is precisely the reason for why Rocky 2 shouldn't work. Basically it is has to do with plausibility. Here are the reasons Rocky 1 gives you for the viewer to sort suspend their disbelieve and immerse themselves into the movie:
    • Apollo's original opponent suffers an injury close to his fight and he was to find a substitute instead of postponing the fight because he has invested a lot of time and money promoting the fight already.
    • Apollo can't fight a ranked opponent because the fight date is so close that no one could reasonably expect them to get in fighting shape so fast to fight against the Heavyweight Champion of the World, while Apollo actually believes that the real reason is that they are all afraid of him.
    • So Apollo basically goes to the "boxer's phonebook" and picks Balboa because of his cool nickname the Italian Stallion plus the fact he is an Italian-American which Apollo will try to tie in with fact that the fight will take place in July 4th 1976 (the US Bicentennial) and the man that "discovered" America was an Italian-American too (Christopher Columbus). This actually isn't the worst idea.
    • Apollo doesn't take the fight seriously since Rocky is just a club fighter which has never been ranked.
    • Rocky in turns takes it seriously, as seriously as he has ever taken anything in his life because he believes if he "goes the distance" with a Apollo, if the bell rings to end the fight and he is still standing THAT WILL ERASE A WHOLE LIFE FULL OF REGRETS AND DISAPPOINTMENTS by virtue of just making in the whole 15th rounds with the Champion. See the widely differences in motivation?
    • Mickey tells us that Rocky "had the chance to become a good fighter and instead of that became a leg breaker". Meaning that Rocky actually had talent but wasting it.
    • Rocky is a southpaw and sometimes fighter get confused and have trouble fighting southpaws.
    • For the first time in his life Rocky has professional training in Mickey.
    • Even as Apollo steps into the ring the announcer observes that Apollo "isn't in the best shape he has been" or something to that effect.
    • With all of that Rocky still loses in a split-decision.
    • Yet in Rocky 2 the roles reversed and Apollo is the one that actually wants to bury Balboa to demonstrate that the 1st fight was just a fluke while Rocky is dis-motivated. Rocky has real trouble seeing out of his right eye and learns to fight right-handed (lol). Doesn't even trains for what it seems to days if not weeks while Adrian is in a comma. Yes, then she provides the motivation for him but it seems to me, like it was too late. Maybe I'm over analyzing (lol) but it seems to me that with the element of surprise gone and Creed being highly motivated whatever speck of plausibility that the 1st film has it is lost in the 2nd one.
    • Still, I don't care, I'm entirely grateful that it exist. It has many wonderful moments and without it of course the series would have never actually become a series.
  • Manhattan: 6/10
  • Breaking Away: 6/10
  • Caddyshack: 6/10 [One of the greatest comedies of all time they said.]
  • The Blues Brothers: 5/10
  • City on a Hill: 7/10
  • The Changeling: 5/10

@Master_Live: Rocky II's a pretty old ass movie, not sure you need spoiler tags. But yea, I agree completely with your sentiment. I always thought Rocky 3 was a better sequel (even though it's entirely dependant on 2) because it essentially places Rocky in Apollo's role like II but does a better job and allows Apollo to redeem himself by re-tuning Rocky back to what he was. It just a tighter, more entertaining movie leaning more on comic-book.

The opening of Rocky 2 is beautiful though, like The Mechanic those dank 70's streets are so moody and alive.

@uninspiredcup: Rocky III was good because it put Rocky into the Apollo role of the 1st movie. Rocky was now the champ. Getting high on his fame. Getting complacent. It took a young, brash Clubber to take him down a peg and make him reclaim the spark that made him great.

Godzilla Kong of the Monsters - Loved it, the humans were mostly forgettable, but the monsters were awesome and the fights were way better then the last American Godzilla movie. Can't wait for Godzilla vs Kong! 8/10

The Watchmen - Too long, has possibly the most awkward sex scene in existence and alot of Zack Snyder's "so kewl" slow money shots. It also misinterpreted a lot of the comic.

But... it's still one of my favorite comic book movies.

The Spy Who Loved Me - Its a remake of You Only Live Twice, basically. With abit of From Russia With Love thrown in.

Which is probably why it ends up being one of the best movies in the series.

Ingmar Bergman's 5 hr 21 min miniseries Fanny and Alexander, from my Bergman boxset. It was great. I saw the trimmed theatrical version a few years ago. Can't believe the TV version only has 1800 IMDB members.

Delta Force - It's sort of on the same level as Rocky IV when it comes to blatant American propaganda.

But, like Rocky IV it's also highly entertaining. He shoots a rocket from his bikes exhaust and blows up a bad terrorist.

No One Lives starring Luke Evans (I actually enjoyed this one and I usually don't like seeing people get hurt).

Savior starring Dennis Quaid (Almost slept because it was late).

Watched both of these with my Dad. They were both good.
