Under the name of Bradley, Private Manning leaked hundreds of thousands of classified documents as well as at least two videos to the website WikiLeaks. During the trial some said that being gay and the resulting bullying helped push Manning to the edge. His lawyer even considered a "gay soldier" defense.
One day after being sentenced to 35 years of confinement, Private Manning stated that he is now a she and should be addressed in female pronouns from now on. Also, from this point on Manning wanted to be addressed as Chelsea.
Today, a Kansas court granted Manning's request. The Army is expected to update Manning's name to comply with the court order but since the military does not allow transgendered people to serve Manning will continue to be treated as a male.
Thoughts? Should the Army also recognize Private Manning as a woman or is simply recognizing the name change good enough?
