I have waited too long to replace my broken window a/c unit and now the heat is on. I'm desperate. The one I want (whirlpool 8000 BTU) claims to be Whirlpools quietest ever. The problem is no store in Los Angeles carries it. I am going to buy it direct from Whirlpool. Lowes and Home Depot carry the standard 6000 BTU's (and it's slim picking now) but they are all terribly LOUD. Anyone care to comment on a good a/c unit?

Joining a video game website just to ask about air-conditioners. Wow, what are the odds.

Try using a book as a fan.

Very effective

Actually, contrary to popular belief, the art of using a hand fan or something to wave at yourself for comfort actually increases your body temperature because of the activity. Much like how a lot of portable fans excrete heat and "pretend" to cool you off.

I'm currently trying to patent a bike powered air conditioner for those 'green' individuals who care about their planet. The only problem is Riding the bike to power the air conditioner only makes me sweaty and hotter and I tire out quickly. It's still in alpha stage and I'm certain I'll figure this out soon.

I've been trying to invent on of those myself but as yet I am unable to. Seems like I always need a battery to get the motion going to power the motor which again is the non-green way of doing things and leads to all sorts of nasty waste and polution. Perhaps you can provide me with the blue-prints. And don't worry, I'll give you half the total income.
