Do people still consider Spiderman 2 the best Marvel movies or has the MCU stuff topped it?

For myself this and Batman: Mask Of Phantasm are top of the chart when it comes to the now (arguably) over-saturated genre.

I thought Spider-Man 2 was meh, along with the entire Tobey Maguire trilogy. Three was complete and absolute garbage.
I still think Infinity War is the best Marvel movie, with Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy 1.0 in a close tie for second.
Still great, but to me, it was outdone by Into the Spider-Verse when it comes to non-MCU Marvel movies.
Far From Home is the best Spidey film IN the MCU though.

I enjoyed this movie, but did find it a tad on the long-side, particularly the final battle with Kingpin.
Could have benefited from being tighter like Mask Of Phantasm, which is about 30-40 minutes shorter.
Quite alot of Superhero movies are too long now.
Spiderman 2 was a long movie, but I was never consciously thinking of it's dragging at any point.
The original spider man is better than the sequel, and spiderman 3 is underrated.
But when you say "marvel", in quotes, do you mean Marvel Picture Studios or just characters from marvel comics? Because Spiderman is Sony, not the mcu disney nonsense. Sony owns the character of spiderman.
@heirren: Spiderman 3 was a dumpster fire, a dumpster that was filled with crap. The first two though are still great movies.
With that said I think they've been outdone, or at least tied by movies like Iron Man, Winter Soilder, and Infinity War. I also probably put m Hulk and Blade 1 and 2 on that list.
@vfighter:
Admittedly ive only seen it the one time when it came out. I wasnt impressed with the 2nd one. I remember really liking the Sandman stuff. 2 and 3 are about equal. The first one is good. James Franco, not a terrible actor, puts in a poor performance imo.
The original Xmen film i think may be the best marvel film. Ironically, going back to Spidey 2, its the xmen sequel i feel is the weakest of the 3 because the actor who plays Cyclops--a prominent role--just hams it and makes that story thread unengaging. 3rd xmen is also underrated.
As I stand with my impressions after watching Avengers Endgame, I said before: "the superhero genre's bar has been set so high after these movies, I am not sure we will have another movie like this, at least not for a long time."
With that said, I think Spider-Man 2 has been surpassed. But at the same time it might not be entirely fair, because Spider-Man 2 came out during a different era of the genre and well before the shared universe concept came to any fruition. Spider-Man 2 will always be an important piece in the superhero genre legacy, but I think things have moved past it by now as well.
@vfighter: Would agree with him that Spiderman 3 is underrated.
I mean, it least it tried to be meaningful and has a point to it. Which I can't say for a lot of the MCU movies where I forgot about them in 5 minutes.
@vfighter:
I remember liking aspects of spidey3, not saying its a great film. Xmen 3 though is far better than the second one. Great 3rd act in that one. Really dig magneeto in it.
Spider-Man 2 is certainly a great movie and probably my favourite Spider-Man movie but most of the MCU movies have definitely topped it in my opinion.
After i watched The Avengers and was told that there is now an mcu...i figured they just toss good filmmaking out the window. There may be exceptions but boy oh boy was Avengers terrible. How could it be worse than the one with Jessica Alba? Are all the mcu films bad?
Iron Man was good. I remember liking the second. The third i dont remember. So they decided on the mcu after Iron Man exploded in poparity?
I'd say most MCU movies are better than Spiderman 2. The Toby MaGuire era along with the first X-Men trilogy were just kinda decent, but came at a time when there had not been a great superhero movie in years. I liked X-Men Apocalypse more than any of them, and most people dumped all over that movie. Expectations are higher now.
Yes it is, indeed it is
far from home was a pile of trash next to doc ock
Yes, wasn't keen on it, after all the reviews was expecting something great.
The thing I missed from all of them, was Sam Rami creative visuals.
Like the shot where J. K. Simmons rages at Spiderman, slams the paper down and we see the character fly through it along buildings, only for the camera to pull back from the lens of Octs glasses, completely switching sides to him on a tower. It's just an amazing scene and totally a comic book page come to life.
Hell, that entire sequence, including the train fight and the "he's just a kid" was better than anything in the MCU imo.
Ain't nothing close to that in the (2) reboots. or the MCU, really. Most of them are pretty boring and flat visually. About the only memorable visual stuff that comes to mind is the first Thanos fight where he throws a moon.
Sony owns the character of spiderman.
Sony owns the film rights only for Spider-Man and its spin-off movies such as Venom. ALL of the characters still belong to Marvel.
So they decided on the mcu after Iron Man exploded in poparity?
The MCU was planned long before the first Iron Man movie even went into production. Because Sony has the film rights to Spider-Man, and at the time Fox & New Line had the film rights to X-Men and Blade respectively, they decided to secure funding to produce & distribute their own movies, and rake in the profits.
@hallenbeck77:
Thats kind of what i meant. The deal with spiderman sounds like a headache.
I didnt know that about the mcu and id have to see it to believe it. I say this because it wasnt until years after Ironman where ALL the Marvel films started adopting the same "look"(in effect limiting directors control of their own projects.)
Of course the studios saw the money involved with "how do we string filmgoers along over the course of xxx movies so they feel they must see them all"....no doubt also seeing the popularity of netflix and hbo shows. ...if that makes sense.
I don't like Spider Man like a character at all... In my opinion the best Marvel movie is Guardians of the Galaxy 1 or Iron Man, imho
@uninspiredcup: Thought all the Spiderman's were predictable and the worst that Marvel have done, with the exception of CPT. Marvel.
Both guardian films are my personal favourites, with the Avenger films just behind.

I still think Infinity War is the best Marvel movie, with Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy 1.0 in a close tie for second.
Yeah I think Doctor Strange is vastly underrated. It is by far the best MCU film that acts as an origin story. Yes, even better than the original Iron Man. I know Iron Man started this whole thing and it's a great movie, but that doesn't mean it's automatically the best.
Would love to see a Black Widow origin story movie, personally, but after the garbage that is Capt Marvel came out I think the incels and menanists might actually have it right for once...
