Is it just me, or is Firefox 4 faster than Chrome?

After doing the adblock plus + about:config tweaks, I tested it out compared to Chrome, and Firefox 4 is faster.

I did a test on each site I visit every day and Firefox 4 is faster on each one of them. I'm on a Mac if that matters.

Firefox 3 can be the same way - faster than Chrome, IE, Opera and Safari.

It is, i would use it if flash didn't crash as much, and the whole browser didn't freeze as much.

I think its just you that cares any more. The odd split second difference isnt enough to annoy me in to changing browsers.

this i agree with, i'm not going back to firefox and putting up with the crashing. But then a split second isn't enough to make up for how slow comes up when you first turn on windows.

.. Wait wait.. How can you measure something on speed with a broadband connection when every page more or less instantly loads regardless of the browser?

Firefox uses way too much memory.Lonelynight

According to windows task manager, firefox uses 86,000K and chrome uses 128,000K. I don't get the argument that firefox uses too much memory when on none of my PCs does it do that.

Are your guy's computers from the 1990s? Since when are we actually measuring trivial differences in small memory apps like these..

Firefox is indeed faster and better. You can turn off password saving or whatever. The customization is just so much better. Firefox never crashes for me.

No. I ran speed tests on various websites (Youtube, Yahoo, GS, etc) with Firefox 3.6, Firefox 4 & Chrome. In most cases, Chrome beat out both firefoxs. This was yesterday btw;)

You can install this alongside Windows. It boots up quicker, runs smoother, and lets you use whatever the moment you see your desktop. Removing it is easy too if you're dissatisfied.

Firefox takes up more than 1,000,000k for me. And a lot of times, it doesn't actually close when I close the windows, causing me to have to close it in the task manager.

No way your firefox takes nearly 1gig of memory without some form of malware corrupting it......With it not closing also leads me to believe you have some form of malware because there is nothing about firefox that would do that on its own.

Firefox had a memory leak bug a long time ago causing it to reach into the 1,000,000s, but that was fixed ages ago.

I never understood the memory argument. What, are you running a computer from 1995? Even low-end computers with 2gb of ram should be able to handle either browser without needing more memory for much else.

With one tab open, Firefox is using 278,000k. Chrome is using 182,000k. So yeah, Chrome uses less memory, but that 100,000k is not a big difference at all. And that is Firefox with a ton of extensions running (including continuously running scripts), Chrome only running Adblock. Not to mention, every tab I open in Chrome adds about 40,000k. Doing so in Firefox adds about 3,000k. So really, if you open a lot of tabs like I do, Chrome is more of a resource hog. The speed for page loading is unnoticeable. The memory is unnoticeable. I pick the browser for its features, which is why I use Firefox.

I'm not sure what you are hinting at. Is it the fact that someone could still your password if you have it saved on your computer? If it is that, then that could happen with any browser.

I've been using Firefox for 3 years and it has never crashed on me. Are you sure that you don't have any add-ons running in the background that are causing it to crash?

I dunno maybe, i used it for a long time and then it wouldnt open at all I got alot of bugs on my PC right now i think though. I had to created a new user account because my other one is all messed up. IT wont show any desktop icons or the start menu. I had to get use to chrome, but once i did i find it really good.

Chrome is a good browser, but I don't like the menu interface. It looks clean, but something seems strange about it.

Well, it is always a huge security risk to save your password anyways.

I can't really tell the difference between the two just yet since I just started using Chrome today. I got tired of Firefox crashing all the time.

The Firefox beta is incredible. It's Chrome + Firefox, and that's just awesome. Tab pinning and grouping is great, as well.dreDREb13
Going by the interface, Firefox 4 looks more like Opera in my humble opinion.

Firefox.exe - right now - in task manager with this website loaded (and no other tabs) is using 89,840k of RAM (and varies slightly while task manager runs). Chrome.exe is running 3 times with 40,752k, 28,500k, and 11,432k - same exact web page open. I think memory usage depends on what webpage is currently loaded. What I do to test browser speed here is to load the exact same page that hasn't been loaded since I powered-on the computer - msn.com for example, and I time how long it is before it says "done" in the corner / all elements are loaded. Personally I've seen MSN load in IE8 in 8-9 seconds while Firefox loaded between 4-5 seconds with Chrome, Opera and Safari somewhere between them. Just testing yahoo.com gave me 5 seconds in IE8 and 2.5 seconds in Firefox. Overall what page and what internet speed you have will change the results. All I know is that it is Firefox loads fastest here.

Try loading Firefox in safe mode and see if it changes.

I should probably mimic all the Firefox fans here who immediately shout "Get Firefox!" when a problem arises with another browser but that would make little sense in this case.
