is it a crime to destroy other people's property? What about property belonging to your parents, if you're staying there? How about in California?

It's called vandalism, and yes, it is a crime.

Um...yes. I thought everyone knew that. Unless it's your own property, then it's a crime.

Just by a really bad car for cheap and destroy it. Don't ruin things that don't belong to you.

LOL, I didn't do anything. I just wanted to know. Btw, vgm007, are you sure that is vandalism? I pictured vanadlism as basically sneaking into someone else's home and doing it without the owner knowing. Are you sure that's what it is?

Destroying something without the owner's consent is vandalism and that is against the law. If they are aware and are allowing you to destroy the item then there is nothing illegal being done.

I see, but what if that person was destroying his/her parent's property, while he/she is living there? Are the rules different there?

he's not the legal owner of the house. It's up to the parents on what they want to do, I suppose.

If the child's under 18, nothing the parents can do but to punish the brat. 18 and older, even if you live with your parents, you can legally be sued.

Unless you have written proof that said "yeah, they wanted me to do it" or the defendant admits to asking you *and* you can prove that the person was in a calm state at the moment, don't do it. You will get sued.

Even if it weren't illegal, expect it to come back to you. You could get sued or maybe even they would take on your house. If you destroyed my house and something happened to my cats I would come after you with very violent ambitions.

Not really, I just watched enough judge and law and order shows to know the right and wrong of it.

The parents could bring up charges against him if they wanted to. But the state won't do anything to him.

Wait, so the person over 18 could get sued by his/her parents? Can the individual be sent to jail, while over 18, and was living with his/her parents? What about if the person is somehow mentally or emotionally impaired, like depression or schizophrenia?

If its not your stuff, you will either have to pay or replace what you vandalised. A specialist will decide if you have some issues, and then they'll go somewhere from there.

Yes it is but don't let that discourage you from doing so.
