I know I'm comparing an HBO mini-series to a movie, but Spielberg directed both of them. I've just seen Band of Brothers, and looking back it is equally brutal in the aspects of war that Saving Private Ryan captured. I do actually enjoy Band of Brothers characters a lot more though. Does anyone else feel the same way?

They're both great.

I really liked seeing the vets talk after segments in Band of Brothers.

I enjoyed Band of Brothers more than Saving Private Ryan, namely because of the characters in BoB, but both are great.

Both are good, but Band Of Brothers is better because we can see the other battles that took place in Europe, and with the same gritty and realism of Saving Private Ryan.

It's not really a fair comparison (Saving Private Ryan didn't have 11+ hours to work with), but Band of Brothers is definitely the better of the two.

I enjoyed Band of Brother's better. I like Saving Private Ryan as well, but Band of Brothers was just a cut above the rest. Better characters, and I think you cared more for them as you grew to know their character. And it's based on a true story.

I loved Band of Brothers, while I feel Saving Private Ryan is one of the most overrated films around. BoB wins by a mile.

Yes, though it's a bit of an apples and oranges match-up IMO, BOB is much, much better. The episode alone where they find the concentration camp, I think it's "Why We Fight" is as good as TV/Movies can get. And by that time your quite vested in the characters.

band of brothers. While I'm a fan of both, you just can't beat band of brothers in this genre. The story is actually true, the characters potray real people, the amount of time it covers WWII (From training to just before leaving, VJ-day), and that it's longer. both show realistic views of war, though Saving private ryan seemed to have stretched it once or twice in the film (Minor stretches though). And, band of brothers was based on the book written by Stephen Ambrose, probably one of the better historians we've had in years.(May he RIP). Ultimately, while both aren't the actual war, band of brothers is closer to what truely happened in the war and how it affected the soldiers. You can never beat the truth or whatever that is closest to the truest representation.

BoB is the best.. BTW it was not directed by Spielberg, If he did direct it was one episode.. He was the producer.. They had a different director direct each episode..Tom Hanks is the only director I can remember off the top of my head that directed one of the episodes.

I really enjoy both of these. When I was like 11 or 12 I first saw both of these and loved them both (I did not get to watch all of BoB because it was on TV or something). I know my dad bought SPR within the first few months it came out (I was pretty young then) and 1 or 2 years ago I bought him the BoB collection on DVD. They are both so great and have seen them numerous times.
