is a laptop a greater asset in college then a desktop?

I would think so, since you'll be able to take it into lessons and such. I'll be taking a laptop when I go to uni.

I think it is because of it's portability.

It doesn't have to be that powerful though, you don't need like a Intel Core 2 Duo with a Geforce 7900. Get a really cheap one, rather than a really expensive because in college, note taking doesn't require a monster laptop.

Yep it is. Let's say you meet an awesome girl and you move in with her. But after spending a week there you realize it was the really wrong decision, so you have to move back. It's sure easier moving a laptop than your whole desktop.

i had a laptop for the past 2 years and i seldom took it out of my room, and when i did it could easily have been avoided. and you don't need a laptop to take notes. just use a notebook and pen.

i recently spilled juice on my laptop which caused it to explode, so i will replace it with a new 24' imac.
