I wonder if Will Smith is going to play the role of a commander in the sequel to Independence Day instead of a pilot like the original film.

I heard about the possibility that Will Smith may be a President in the sequel.

But he wrote, co-produced, and had a part in it.  Not to mention all the promotion he did for this in the talk show circuit (there was no way his son was going to sell this movie by himself.) It's his first movie in about 20 years that didn't open at #1--and this is an industry in which you're only as good as your last movie.  

Still don't know why this is getting a sequel almost 20 years later.  

Title should read, Independence Day 2 pt.1 2015. From what the IMDB page of Roland Emmerich reads, he's producing 2 announced films titled ID Forever Pt.1 and 2. Films are not needed nor asked for in the past decade. The time for sequels would have been nearer the release of the first. Not 17 years later.

Fingers crossed it' s going to be a decent movie. Just hand Will Smith one of the leading roles.

i dont know why, i hope the movie is a satire of the first.

Why? The first movie was great, but there is no need for a sequel. Leave it alone.

Bill Pullman is the first to confirm he's back.

Only interested if Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith return. No-one ever said the aliens were completed wiped out. They could've been a fraction of the total or a new species will show up. MonoSilver
