OMFG! The British Pound is sooooooooooo valuable, I mean I'm American (as my avatar states) and the british pound is about .75 cents higher than the American dollar. To the British people on Gamespot, how many pounds are paid in minium wage? Here in America it's about $6.15 an hour... I'm gonna go to Britain and invest my money in the Briish pound one day:D

£1 has been roughly equal to $2 for quite some time now ... Minimum wage is currently £5.52 (about $11) for anyone aged 22 and over. It is £4.60 for workers aged 18 to 21 and £3.40 for anyone under 18 ... You have to bare in mind that the cost of living is much greater in the UK than it is in the US though.

Don't be deceived though. Just think, if they are making 15 pounds an hour, that is like us being paid $15 an hour. They get paid in their own currency, so it's not like they are making more money over there. It is sort of tough to put into words.

Things cost more over here. For example, a new PS3 game can cost £50 ($100). And there's tax to be considered, but I don't understand that.

Its not quite equivelant to being paid $15 an hour, as the cost of living isn't as much as double in the UK what it is in the US. But yeah, you're right, although £15 is roughly $30, its not really like being paid $30 an hour as the cost of living is greater here in the UK. It would maybe be like getting paid around $20 an hour? Thats a guess though.

It is tough to put into words so I will try my best. When you do the exchange rate, it shows that games and such are more expensive over there (I use to live in England, so I know how it feels.) When you have to pay say, 50 pounds for a game, that is just the same as an american paying $50 for a game because you are being paid in your own currency. Since I lived in England, I was being paid by the american dollar (since I am in the military) and if I wanted to go buy a game, it would cost me $100 because I am being paid by the american dollar. I wasn't receiving the british pound as my currency. Sorry if anything came off rude. :P

The tax is the VAT, which is a similar system, though not exactly the same, to the sales taxes they have in US states. VAT is 17.5% which is alot higher than the average sales tax in US states so tax definitely makes a difference to things like video games. There is no VAT on essentials though, so in theory it doesn't make a difference to the actual cost of living.

And I shall correct you both--Montana does not exist, and every state at least matches the federal minimum wage.

silly OP... you're late to the game...

if you're just now thinking of buying british pounds, you will be buying overvalued pounds with undervalued dollars... you get screwed twofold...

you shoulda bought pounds, or even better invested in international stocks and mutual funds 6 months ago (its really pretty hard to make money trading currency, unless you're a bank)...

Yeah it's extortionate here. Go to a club somewhere central and it's equivelant to $18 for a single JD and Coke. To get in costs on average $30. And when you aren't going out you can be sure you'll have enough to pay in general expenses - I pay over $200 a month on public transport alone. London has to be one of the most expensive places to live.

It is worth a lot more. Yet, cost of live is much much higher in the U.K, goods cost more, and don't even get me started about the cost of the gas. I would really like to visit London, that would be awesome. Jeez the U.S dollar is just sucking right now, and not all of it is due to the war, most of the issue is result of the mortgage market and that people are buying much more then they can afford. Still it seems that say $15 an hour in London is almost equal to $8-10 an hour here after you factor in all the cost of living.

He's right. Your life is a lie. Open your mind, break the chains of years and years of brainwashing, and you'll see the truth. Or maybe I'm just speaking to a government robot, who's agenda is too try and convince us Montana exists. I'll never know.
