You're gonna forge steel in your living room? Okay? Good luck with that and hope you don't have to explain it to the fire deparment.

Nope, you'd think that wouldn't you? Making swords is actually quite easy.

A commercial fire place won't work anyway. You needheat source similar a blast furnace in order to soften iron. A fireplace that is made to intensify the heat. I guess if you consider warping metal forging it then whatever.

If it's just a sword for show it woun't be hard to make, but a sharp sword requires a lot softening and hardening so it would take a lot of forging.

It's a dangerous exhibition with ameture tools. Just If you can get that iron or steelhot enough to melt just imagine what will happen if it touches you. You can't pick that up with an oven mit. You need forging tongues and a tub of coolant to set it in everytime you finisha forge.

I find it hard to believe that this isn't a joke thread, but if you are genuine about trying to make a sword in your fireplace, or in general for that matter, then you are quite possibly one of the most stupid people I have ever come into contact with.

You won't get the temperatures you need to forge steel out of a fireplace. Hell, I'd doubt you could get the temperatures needed to forge bronze.

just to let you know, burning aluminum creates a noxious violitile gas that is potentially dangerous in large amounts.
