If there's a song you want to find, is there a specific website you go to?

If you perhaps want to find the name of the song or artist who sings it, and you can't quite figure out the lyrics or know much about the song, do you have a go-to website that helps you identify certain pieces of music?

For example I remember being recommended some iPhone applications such as "soundhound" that proved to be rather useless given their advertised features, so that particular venue was a bust. However I'm sure there are more successful options, if you happen to know any.

The Shazam app works great if you have an iPhone or iPad.

songlyrics.com is great if you just have words.

Google. It's usually relatively easy if you're not incompetent or you're not trying to find a dubstep remix.

Google as far as trying to figure out which song or artist. Spotify if I actually want to hear the song.

I usually get the results I'm looking for from just googling the main lyrics.

google what I can remember of the lyrics, if the search is fruitless then I stop caring. Eventually I will hear it again and will once again pursue it, hopefully with positive results.

There's a website where you can record yourself doing the melody/whatever and people will guess what it is.

If it's on the radio a lot try the top 40 or something. Their repertoire is not exactly brimming with variation. And googling some of the lyrics works wonders too. Sure there's a phrase you remember?

I'd like to say something like "English isn't my first language so it's difficult for me to discern some of the lyrics a singer chants out" but funnily enough, even though English isn't my mother-tongue, it actually is my first language.

But you know what? Artists always sing in gibberish, always, no matter who they are or what genre of music it is, I never have an ear for music. So no matter what they're singing and what language it's in, I'll never be able to pick up the lyrics.

I only tell you all this to illustrate my relationship with certain music and how it's not really my forte, the medium as a whole in fact.

Oh and also, why people don't actually read the opening post of a topic? I mean good god stop being so dense because about 15 posts in this topic look like complete tools. "durr hurr use goggle" :/

It's funny, last summer I actually made a topic verysimilar to this one, asking about a song and wanting to find out what it was. I was lucky that time because about a month ago I heard the song again thanks to a friend and found out what it was, and heh I remember being super psyched to finally figure out what the damn song that was stuck in my head was called. In case you're moderately interested, it's this Pink Floyd song that tells teachers to leave kids alone, and more so than that, the fact that they don't need education. Never would have guessed, myself.

Unfortunately, this time I'm not so lucky. I made another topic a few months back asking about another song but this time I'll probably have to wait another 6 months until I hear it again and be able to decipher the lyrics or google some of the words :P . I don't really listen to music so when something catches my ear it sticks with me until my curiosity about it is sated. Ah well. Was worth a try.
