Idk why, but this kinda depresses me...

ok, I am 18 years old and im going into college soon. For some reason, everytime i hear my friends talking about how much they drink, do drugs, have sex, ect (ordinary teenage behavior) I get really depressed and I cant figure out why. Like i know its expected for teenagers my age to experiment with sex/drugs/alcohol, but I cant figure out why It bothers me so much. Call it being a boyscout or naive, but I was wondering if this was normal, and if it wasnt, what I would have to do to not let it bother me so much.

PS: Ive never had sex, drank alcohol, done drugs or anything like that before. This probably has something to do with it, but i wouldnt know.

you should maybe experiment with one so you have a point of refrence or not its really your choice on how to live.

Its not just my ethics. sometimes I feel like my generation is just going downhill when they do destructive stuff like that. I feel like everyone in this generation gets corrupted too easily, and thats what make me sad.

like one girl i know i 15, almost 16, and he is in a relationhip with a dude who i 20, they have sex and everything. like Im pretty sure thats illegal, with her being underaged and everything.

i dunno i just feel like everybody in my age group is corrupt, and i dont want them to be. I dont want to see kids my age throwing their lives away with drugs/alcohol/sex

It's just jealousy. You obviously want to do all those things, so hearing other people do it makes you envious/sad.

just because you have sex or do drugs at an early age doesnt mean your throwing your life away. sometimes its a phase sometimes its not. its mostly about the person and their qualities. not everyone can be as pure as you, not everyone wishes to be as pure as you are.

most teenagers since the 60's have experimented with sex,drugs and achocol and they are normal experimenting when your a teenager be smart and remember its your choice

I think that might have something to do with it (for the sex part), but other times I think "oh jeez, another person is doing that stuff, what a suprise"

I'm similar to you TC, but it doesn't make me feel sad or anything. My friends can do whatever it is they please. If they need my help I give it to them, otherwise I'm not going to get involved where I'm not needed (unless it's extreme). I'm happy/proud of my decisions, and I wouldn't change that. You just need to develop some more confidence in yourself, and then you'll have more faith in the choices you make and it won't matter what anyone else does. Drugs, sex, and alcohol =/= bad, you just need to be responsible about it.

Its pretty simple. Do any of those things when you're ready. I've done them all and I did them at college.

If you don't feel like it then don't do it. Pretty straightforward. Just don't become a shut-in. Go to a few parties and have some fun. If it's not for you, then stop going out and focus on school. Either way you win.

it's not ordinary teenage behavior. it actually represents a minority of teenage behavior. It only seems like it's more than that because you only hear the people talking. And talking is worthless as far as summing up the reality of behavior.

Maybe you feel depressed because it seems like those things are all to look forward to and they don't appeal to you at all. Makes you feel like the future's bleak.

But anyway... you should probably try them just once at least to say you tried it. If you don't like it, don't bother doing it again. You shouldn't feel pressured to do stuff you don't want to.

maybe it depresses you to think that they are being to reckless with their lives, or maybe your depressed because you haven't been reckless enough with your own. teenage years are used to find who you are. so if you've been the good ol' boy scout this whole time then maybe your body is just telling you that you missed your opportunity to experiment a little to find yourself. maybe you've already found yourself, and it depresses you that your own friends still seem like they are trying to find themselves.

I had a similar thing during my late-teens and I eventually worked out that it was because I felt like I was missing out. Maybe I did miss out, maybe I didn't, but either way the feeling passed and I'm very happy with the quiet life I now lead.

It's not important at all. If those people are perfectly willing to excommunicate you from their social ring for refusing to do things which make you uncomfortable then they are simply not worth knowing at all. You don't want to be associated with bigots like that.

Dude it's called "insecurity". You feel kinda depressed because you can't do what your friends can do. Try the drugs/alchohol/sex thing, nothing wrong with it if you do it with moderation (except drugs). If you can do that and you're still insecure, I'd say consult a psychologist. Me serious here.

thats the problem is that im scared for them. I mean they are my friends and i care about them. I dont want to see them go down that road. but its their decision, i understand that.

Try a little of the first two but definitely don't go for any hard drugs. If you like them then keep doing them if you don't then no harm done and just stop.

It's because you want to do it, but don't have it in you to actually do it.

Be more open and don't be afraid to do it. I had the same problem. It's not worth it. Go out there and have fun without holding back (unless it's seriously wreckless).
