It's a stupid movie influenced very heavily by the misguided notion of chivalric romance. In reality, she was just a complete tool and so was he for waiting that long and never getting over it. You don't need to torture yourself to be in love. It feels good, it doesn't kill you for years.
Yeah, I watched that movie with my now ex-fiance. We curled up on the bed and cuddled and kissed while we watched it. After the movie he was balling like a baby and then kissed me and wouldn't let go. He then promised he'd never let his parents break us up (because they didn't like me cause I wasn't rich, just like in the movie) A few months later we broke up partially because of them:lol: :| :cry:

I live a few minutes from Mercer Island but I'm certainly not rich. His parents are rich RICH and very stuck up.
