i am interested in vegetarian western food recipes now, i liked hash browns but i failed miserably at tar tar of potatoes, i watched vids for both of these recipes and managed to make one. i heard once in a wrestling show big show saying something about smashed potatoes on thanks giving. i wonder if potato is the prime veg item in western life.

Did you make shredded hash browns? Trick to those is to squeeze out as much water as possible otherwise they won't brown/crisp up properly. Corn is the prime veg item in US life, though. Those farmers are subsidized like crazy and corn finds itself into everything from hog feed to cattle feed to human feed.

I have potatoes lotsa different things.

mashed potatoes are good and easy to make. can make them lots of different ways.
mash them up, put a little bit of butter, milk, and maybe salt and pepper, then moosh it all together

can leave the skin in if you don't want to bother taking it off

restaurants sometimes whip them somehow (I guess with a mixer thing like for whipped cream) and sometimes have garlic in them. sometimes that's good, sometimes not so much.

Some vegetarians abstain from consuming any product which is derived from animals. Hence the egg.

I've never made particularly crispy hash browns either, they don't seem to come out right. I think part of my issue is that I'm using a regular grater, where the ones used for hash browns are slightly larger. Also I think you have to be using russet potatoes.

I like to eat smashed potatoes with baked tilapia. That is a good meal if you don't consider fish to be meat. But I'm not a vegetarian... I had fried chicken, mac and cheese and kool-aid tonight.

"Smashed potatoes"? Sounds like a violent food.
