I am almost positive an arrow would not be able to penetrate, but certain modern knives, along with enough (a massive amount) force can penetrate kevlar...at least gloves, and helmets and stuff. I also doubt that swords/knives would be able to penetrate Kevlar body armor however.

Just check on wikipedia, kevlar offers little protection from arrows or bladed weapons. for that you need Dyneema or Spectra.

I would go straight through. Kevlar is design to spread the impact and slow the bullet down. A knife or sword doesnt stop when it hits becuase you are still pushing into it. Plus the knife comes to a point.

Bullets can be stopped by kevlar because they have very little mass and a lot of velocity. Basically any other ballistic weapon or especially melee weapons would go right through like butter. English police are developing/developed knife-resistant armor because kevlar doesn't work against knives.

Kevlar is a breaking mechanism it slows bullets down, if you were attacked by a person with a knife and you had kevlar on it wouldn't help alot since the attacker can constantly add force to his knife

I thought it was that the knife just went between the threads of Kevlar...?

it could stand up bows and arrows. If slashed with a knife you would still be ok, however, if you were stabbed by a knife it would go through, mainly because the force of the knife is put on only a few threads of kevlar.

Kevlar disperses velocity and redistrubutes the energy of the impact in waves that radiate out from the point of impact..  Since a knife or blade has constant force applied to it, it can cut right through.

It wouldn't. The arrow would pierce it easily and the sword would cut it like paper. Kevlar only rsists penetration of ball shaped projectiles and resists tearing when slashed with a knife. But a claw tip or a a tanto can puncture. So can spikes and nails.

Kevlar stops most pisto bullets becuse they are ball shaped. But rifle bullets go right thriugh because they are pointed, like a pencil. An arrow head is a spade or spike. so it would puncture pretty easy. A sword is too sharp for Kevlar to resist.

The body absorbs the impact, the kevlar is just a tough shell that keeps the bullet from puncturing the body.

Kevlar is slash and stab reistant. Also fire reistant. It resists puncture and slash. That's why kevlar gloves are very useful if a knife fight. Your oppenent can't cut your hands.

Since most handgun bullets are ball shaped the chances of a handgun bullet fully penetring the kevlar panel are low. If the bullets is pointed it will puncture.

You can file FMJ ball ammunition to a point which will increase the chances of penetration. Steel Core also known as Armor piercing doesn't flatten upon impact because it's a solid steel bullet, since it doesn't expand steel core ball ammunition usually penetrates kevlar with no problem.

The tanto blade, claw tip blade and dagger blade combat knives are the only knives that have a good chance of punching through kevlar. But only from a pinned angle. I mean you have to get the guy pinned were he can't bounce rearwards then thrust the knife right in. I'm talking close enough to kiss.

Nails, ice picks and other spikes go through the easisest. manufacturers make special Kevlar for prison guards, designed to resist shanks and other types of spikes.

I think it is a special type of material that is used in bullet-proof vest.

Heavy Materials have been known to deflect or absord the impact of lower velocity slugs. Such as heavy layers of cloathing. That's basically what Kevlar is. A thick tightly fibered garmet. Bullets puncture because skin and flesh tear easy.

Kevlar has other uses than bullet resistance. SWAT and TAC teams also like it because if there is a fire or phosphorous spattering around their kevlar gloves, vest, and face mask will protect them. Same reason fire fighters use kevlar material.
