I was thinking about starting to use mine, but not sure if it's really a good idea.

Credit cards are great if you use them responsibly and always keep in mind that your still spending your money even though your using the card. Just be carefull.
I've never had one, and since I don't particularly fancy the idea of being the bank's property by way of interest, I'll hold off on getting one until I absolutely have to.
If your in the US you'll need one to help establish your credit if you ever plan to buy a home. You can avoid the interest by paying off your cards every month. A good practice is to use it for gas or groceries, stuff you should be able to pay off when the bill arrives.I've never had one, and since I don't particularly fancy the idea of being the bank's property by way of interest, I'll hold off on getting one until I absolutely have to.

Thats what I was thinking, stuff less than $100, that won't make me worry about paying it off.[QUOTE="black_cat19"]

Yeah, I've heard that before, I know at least the basics of using credit cards in the US. The thing is I live in Mexico, and don't really plan on moving (at least not to the US), and to be honest all I know about credit here is that interest rates are absolutely INSANE; I've heard of standard cards from well-known banks charging something like 70% interest, but on the flipside, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone checking your credit history for anything here (I think the banks just want you to spend more money than you can possibly pay back so they can own you along with all your descendants, but that's just me), so I'm not in any real hurry to get one. :P
I got one and use it rarely. It's way to easy to get loads of credit at them. The bank used a minute to check if my "finances" was okay and if I had some back up in case things changes. While doing this, they guy told me that if I wanted over 25 000NOK kr (~4100$) they needed more time to check if it was okay.
I don't know. I have some card, and I use it to pay things through internet, I use the card to pay for my food over at McDonalds, I use it to buy games, I use it to get cash from ATMs. The money is immediately withdrawn from my bank account. I have no idea if this counts as a credit card but if it does then yes, I use one.
I've got one, and have had it for a few years. It sure helps when you are in sticky situations.
For example, last week my car broke down. I had to pay $420 to get it fixed, plus I also paid my parents the $300 I owed them. Thus, I had about $50 for the entire week. However, a day before my pay went it, I needed petrol. I whipped out my credit card and put a load of fuel onto that, and paid it off as soon as I got paid from work.
never have and i dont plan on having debt so, i hope i never will.

This. If you get a credit card that pays you for using it too then you get 1-3% off every purchase and a nice check every year when they refund all your rewards - while STILL not paying any interest. Why use cash when you can do this? If you even pay interest once you're doing it wrong.Always, and I always pay it off before it's due; never once paid the CC company a dime.

I use mine all the time. Instead of paying service charges with my debit card. I just use my credit card, then pay my bill off in full each month.
Although I kind of wish I never got one, because my friends started asking if they could use my credit card and pay me back because they didn't have enough money at the time. zeldaluff
Bad idea, where they expensive items?
I have one and a line of credit. Use it exclusively to buy things online, and always pay it off as soon as I buy something.
They're great if you never carry a balance because they both help build credit and typically have rewards. Not carrying a balance is the key.

I don't think so, but I'm not sure because I didn't agree to it. I feel like that could get in the way of a friendship very quickly.i owe $4000 on mine and the stupid morons sent it to a collection agency, well my mom was going to pay it off so I phoned the stupid agency and they tell me to "leave a message" and they never phoned back, what a joke, I cant believe i cant contact the bank and pay ithadokenI owe about that much too. I haven't been paying a cent for years now.. they took me to the court, and Im unemployed I dont have to pay.. Im not using credit anymore, Im done. and Im not paying. I made a mistake sorry, but no more credit cards for me ever.
[QUOTE="diyth41"]If you never used one before don't start! That's my advice. Listen to him.. trust me.I was thinking about starting to use mine, but not sure if it's really a good idea.
