You're 17, you don't need to worry about how much sleep you need, you just sleep until you wake up, even if it is in the late afternoon!

Ideally, anyone should be getting 8 hours of sleep a night.

6 hours is still perfectly fine though. You're not going to collapse and die from sleep deprivation or anything.

Eight is generally the magical number. You can get by with six though it might make for a bit more of a rough morning. Anything bellow six seems to have some negative consequences, for me at least.

8 hours is a goo time. But it really depends on the person. I mean if your sitting on your butt all the time 6 hours is probably not that bad.:P But if your going outside and moving around 8 is the perfect number.

Just sleep until you don't feel tired..not like you're doing anything where it matters whether you're tired or not..

you really should get 7-8 hours a night. i think a lot of studies have shown decreased health in the long term for those who do not get sufficient sleep

The amount of sleep you need depends on how old you are I've been told. Teenagers usually needing about 10 and older people needing about 5-6. Of course, nobody really sticks to that I'm sure. I generally went to bed around midnight in High School and woke up at 6:30.

Just do what I did. Stay up until you fall asleep at your desk or whereever you're at. There's no reason to have an official "sleep-time". This does seem to confuse other people though. Like sometimes I was up at 7:30am playing computer games (having not gone to sleep yet) and there were cans of beer on my desk, so they were like, "isn't it a bit early to be drinking?" So I'd tell them, "Isn't it a bit late for you to still be up?" At which point I'd open another can of beer and continue playing.

Everyone is different, longer isn't better sleep is pretty complicated, there's like 5 cycles repeated a few times throughout your sleep and the point of the cycle which you wake up will effect how you feel (ie. tired / fully awake)

Different strokes for different folks All I need is 4-5 hours, but some people seem to need 9+ Experiment, especially in the summer (no school) -sleep 8 hours for a week (write down how you feel) -repeat with 9 hours -repeat with 7 hours ...etc

I'm in school right now and only get alittle more than 6 hours of sleep per day. It really depends on how your body handles it though.

They say you can function with 5, but ideally 8+ would be much better.

I believe there's a way to train your body to go straight into REM sleep, so you would only need about 2 hours of sleep per day

It varies from person to person. If you screw with your subconsciousness enough, you can live off of a mere 2 hours of REM sleep per 24 hour period. Then again, for all the effort it's worth you'd be better off sticking with the archetypical 8 hour night.

I like to get 6-7 hours, but with 3 year old twins 3-4 hours is what I get.
