I'm curious. Who comes up with the figure that people will sue for? Especially the large and seemingly ridiculous ones.

For example: There's an ongoing case here in Aus where a 25 year old lady is suing David Jones (company)its former CEO for over $37 million dollars. This is a sexual harrasment claim and the figure is based on 5% of the companies profits....

What I don't get is how they came up with that figure!Assuming you added her salary for the time worked there with ongoing psychological medicalcare.... it's a bucketload of cash! What would she do if she worked at a company that wasn't earning money like David Jones.

I'm not sticking up for the big company here, obviously what went on was wrong but I'm just wondering if anyone knows how they come upwith the amounts they sue for?

http://www.random.org/ Make sure the minimum is at least 9000 and that the maximum is whatever the maximum amount of money the person/company you're suing is worth. Then just hit "generate" and you've got the amount you'll sue for.

Whatever their lawyer says.

As to how lawyers come up with their figures...well, I don't know. That's why they are the lawyers. :P

I think it has to do with the CEO's income and stuff like that. She only got $1miilion I think, but has changed her mind about giving it to charity. I want to work at David Jones. I hope the CEO likes blondes.

Sorry mate, you're SOL now as the CEO's left. You'll have to get your sexual harassment fix somewhere else now. Maybe head down to the beach topless and frown at anyone who looks at your man boobs. Not sure topless will get you as many loks as a girl but you could try :D
