When you come across a non-brit and the persistently try to mimic the accent.

usually having to do with tea and govna.

I admit to being guilty of this

I take no offense at this whatsoever. Although the regional dielects of the British Isles are amongst the most diverse i've ever come across (considering the size of the place), so of course, only a teeny tiny fraction of the population would use the word "guvnah".

I don't because I'm from Manchester. Our accent is probably the worst in England.

The only thing that annoys me about people taking the mik out of Brits is when they say we got bad teeth because it's true and I don't know what else to say about it.

Not really. Their English is a different than Americanized English. So it's like a different language.

Considering we all have free dental it does seem a bit odd... TBH i've never come across an American trying to replicate a northern accent.

Try being from Ireland and living in the states. American: "Where are you from?" Me: "Ireland" American: "I'm Irish too!" Me: "Oh where abouts in Ireland?" American: "Oh not me, I've never been there, but my great grandmother was from there. I really want to go someday." Me: "......."

I mimic them by mistake sometimes. Whenever I'm near a british person a switch in my head causes me to pick up their accent.

The only time I mimic a British accent is when I'm reading a book, and I make up a voice for an English dude.

I'm Scottish and in my last encounter with an American, he asked why I wasn't wearing a kilt. I almost facepalmed myself through a wall.

Of the few Americans I've met most commented that I have a "weird British accent". I'm from the West Midlands so I have a mild brummie accent, which couldn't really be any further from the traditional "Queen's English".

The most annoying thing for me is when Americans make comments on our bad teeth, mainly because my teeth are actually really neat and white  .

Quite funny. To be honest I find it quite cool that anyone would bother to copy a part of my countries accent, considering how boring I find it.

Nah not really. I live in Australia these days so I've had it a fair bit. What I find more amusing is the question I'm constantly asked 'where in London are you from?'. It's like nothing exists in the UK outside of London- England is but a barren wasteland but for its shining capital.

Maybe it's because whenever Brits are on screen in the states all the Yanks ever see is posh well spoken people like Emily from Friends (and I HATE Ross's god awful english accent in that) or 1940's style Dick Van Dyke-like cockernee. Daphne in Frasier had the worst manc accent ever... until Anthony Lapaglia tried to play here brother... as cockney? WTH? We need more northern's on US TV and films... On the plus side thank god for Gerard Butler's scottish Spartan
