Most of us would agree that HBO has been one of the best TV channels 4-5 years ago,but now, AMC has taken us by surprise and has become a nightmare for HBO. Showtime is also a rising channel. Which TV channel do you think makes the best drama shows? Here are some shows that these channels have.

HBO

  • The Wire
  • The Sopranos
  • Boardwalk Empire
  • Game of Thrones
  • Band of Brothers
  • The Pacific
  • Rome
  • True Blood
  • Six Feet Under
  • Sex and The City
  • How to Make it in America
  • Eastbound & Down
  • Entourage
  • Deadwood
  • Flight of the Conchords
  • Curb Your Enthustiasm
  • John Adams
  • Extras
  • Angels in America
  • The Corner
  • Oz

AMC

  • The Walking Dead
  • The Killing
  • Mad Men
  • Breaking Bad
  • Broken Trail
  • Hell on Wheels
  • Weeds
  • Many Classic Movies

Showtime

  • The Borgias
  • Homeland
  • Dexter
  • The Tudors
  • Californication

P.S. If you guys know any other good shows that each of these channels have, please post them so I can add them to this list.

AMC also has Hell on Wheels which I've started watching. It's only 2 episodes in and I'm not sure where the show is ehading but it seems pretty cool so far.

This is seriously no competition HBO is leagues ahead of AMC and Shotime. Also there's alot of Six Feet Under fans so you might want to add that to the HBO list

Of what I've seen from each channel HBO wins hands down. And I still haven't seen The Sopranos, Big Love, Six Feet Under, In Treatment, Treme or Carnivale.

Well, AMC is the only one of those I actually have right now. Overall though, HBO is tops with Game of Thrones, The Wire, The Sopranos, and Band of Brothers.

HBO. The list is missing Sex in the City. Is it considered drama? Dramatic romance?

I was actually just thinking about this, here are the shows I watch from each.

HBO

How to Make it in America
Eastbound & Down
Entourage

AMC

The Walking Dead
Hell on Wheels

Don't really watch anything on Showtime, although I used to watch Shameless and Episodes for a bit

I was pretty disappointed with Game of Thrones honestly, it just seems so much worse than the books. I've never watched an adaptation where I thought it was better than the books however. My vote still goes to HBO because I still like a lot of shows on it.

HBO, and it's not even remotely close. AMC would come in second just for their two great shows alone, and Showtime would come in last.

Yea, I am not a big fan of book adaptations cuz they can never imo have the details that make it feel almost real. However, I still liked Game of Thrones, Sean Bean's acting was excellent imo.

Yeah it's mostly the details and already knowing where the story is going to go. It's easy to read books through again because there's many things you might not have noticed, but going from reading the book where there's a bunch of details to the show/movie where they have to skimp on a lot of those, it just loses momentum and isn't as exciting.

It also bothered me that some of the characters didn't seem their age (although having Daenerys be an adult is completely understandable :P)

If we're looking at each network's backcatalogue, HBO destroys everyone. No competition at all. You just can't compete with Band of Brothers, Game of Thrones, and the Wire (Sopranos, Carnivale... etc). I'm waiting for more Game of Thrones, Ricky Gervais Animated, and Eastbound and Down.

Showtime I don't care so much for. I watch Dexter (thank you, Movie Central) and Homeland is my favourite fall show, but otherwise, there hasn't really been anything impressive from them. I'm almost inclined to put Starz above them just because of how much I like Spartacus/Gods of the Arena.

I like AMC, but there have been really questionable decisions we've been hearing about the past year. The stuff with the cast of Mad Men, Frank Darabont and TWD, Breaking Bad *almost* getting a budget cut for the fifth season... I'm enjoying Hell on Wheels, but imo BrBa is by far their most impressive offering.

racer8dan

Yea, AMC is great for all of its classics but I don't think HBO is overrated. Most HBO shows seem like they are high-budget and a lot of care has been put into them. However, some are pretty overrated cuz people get excited when they see its an HBO production.....
