I'm asking because I wanna know how your experience with the procedure was.

I've been procrastinating on making an appointment to get mine pulled for a couple years now, which is bad, because apparently the process only gets worse the longer you wait (as your teeth settle in). I guess I'm just kinda nervous about the whole thing, which is weird, because I've gotten teeth pulled before, so I don't know why I'm having such a stigma about this one. I mean, it couldn't possibly be any worse than that extensive eye exam I had to get a few years back, and that was awful.

when I was 15.

Its not pulling teeth out, its breaking in to your mouth and force removing caveman molars that are hiding under and way back in your mouth.

Its not like the way you see it in the youtube videos.

I was fine, I got up of the chair walking and chill (some people cant even walk or see straight).

The bad part is that your faces is swollen for about a week (more than that) with gauze in your mouth 24/7, you cant eat nothing, you cant lay down to sleep you got to sleep in a sitting position, you cant really go out in the sun. Also you will be drooling alot, even after you are semi recover and are on and about a bit, you'll be drooling here and there with out noticing. It took like 2 weeks for my swollen face to go down, it was bad.

If you can, try to get two removed force, then the other two later. All four at once is alot of medication and you'll be high as a kite and really incapacitated.

Three of my wisdom teeth they came out and healed with ease, I even smoked and they told me not to nothing happened. I didn't even need much pain relief medication that they gave me. Those healed quick and painlessly.

I did however have one impacted wisdom tooth, that's where it comes out at an angle up against the side of the following tooth, and to remove that they did an awful lot of yanking to bend it up for extraction, which didn't hurt during the procedure because I was numb, then yanked it out. After the pain medication wore off after the procedure it was sore for a long while, like a couple weeks. That took a long time to heal probably because of all that damn yanking and the trauma to the area of my mouth, so if they yank out any impacted wisdom teeth make sure they provide you enough pain relief.

Mine weren't as bad, they didn't need to do much drilling. I was able to eat solid food in two days (I shouldn't have anyway, as the holes were still healing, but I was hungry damnit). So TC it might be worse for you since you waited it out a bit. Don't skip out on mash potatoes, yams, yogurt, soup, and icecream.

Got both of my lower ones pulled out. The surgery was smooth and painless although a bit long. After the anesthesia wore out I felt pretty bad and tried to avoid anything that made me move my neck; even breathing was mildly painful. You won't be able to eat anything solid for like 3 days, after that it gradually settles down to an ache and after two weeks you won't feel anything anymore.

I had ice pack on my face all day for like 4 days straight and my face was still swollen.

My advice it to gain up on weight before going under the knife, cuz it it takes you a week or more to recover, you're gonna be loosing weight.

I got my wisdom teeth taken out some years back. My mouth was swollen up and had to take pain killers to keep the pain away. It lasted for like two days before the swelling went away.

I'm not sure if they're considered impacted wisdom teeth or not, but my bottom 2 have been growing in at a slight angle and colliding. As for my top, they seem to be fine, but I've been recommend to get them removed as well.

I was 19. My bottom teeth were growing in sideways. I had to get them broken in half and then removed. They took out all four. It wasn't too bad. You are put to sleep during it. You definitely need a ride going. I was pretty groggy for a little while. Recovery sucks a bit. I had some Vicodin knockoff prescribed to me. I usually don't take pain pills but for the next day I took them anytime my 4 hours was up. I also had to change my bandages every few hours as the next day is some bleeding.

The second day out the bleeding stops and though my face was swollen, the pain started to fade. I was also able to eat softer stuff like oatmeal, chicken soup, or other things that didn't require much crunchy chewing. So if you work/go to school do it on a Friday and by Monday you should be good to go back.

I'm actually in the same position as you, OP. I only have two on the top and they've been "growing in" for over a year now. I was warned that they'll break through soon, so I'm weighing the options. I'm nervous about it.

Yeah, I've been contemplating about being fully knocked out, but I don't think I'll be taking that option. Supposedly it's more pricey, and I'd also have to travel a bit to get to my destination, for like a specialist or something. While the other option I'd only have to travel down a couple of streets in my town.

Nope I've never seen the need. I'm 23 my wisdom teeth are as far in as they will ever be, all my teeth fit fine in my mouth and I'm not in any pain. In my mind I just see no reason to remove them.

Oh.... you HAVE to be knock out. The surgery is literally no different then have they used to do "surgery" during the civil war.

Bunch of drills and saws in your mouth. And they dont start till you fall asleep, for that reason.

Evolution removed mine for me. I have 27 teeth (missing a secondary molar as well). My orthodontist discovered this when I had braces in high school.

I dreaded getting my wisdom teeth removed. Turns out, the procedure was fairly simple. All of mine were impacted, yet the pain after the procedure was next to nil. Went out and about literally a few hours after the procedure with next to no swelling, and ate fast food. Something I didn't think I'd be able to do for weeks. I waited and waited for the pain to kick in, but it never did. I had gauze in my mouth for only a few hours before the heavy bleeding stopped and I still have the bottle full of hydrocodone they gave me for the pain relief. Even smoked the next day, and was fine. Worst part about the whole thing was cleaning the food out of the sore pockets where your cavemen molars used to be.

you still have to wear braces durring High school tho, so I would take the one-and-done surgery, over years of braces that pretty much cost the same or more than the surgery.

I didn't even know there was a surgery for crooked teeth. Had I known, I would have skipped the three years of torture.

Just get it done. It's not scary. They stick a needle in your hand, knock you the eff out and you wake up. Your mouth hurts like a bitch for like a week, and you're pretty much eating ice cream and soup, but it's not the end of the world. Just get them out, it'll make your life a living hell if you don't.

Anticipation is always the worst. You'll wake up, realize you're not made of glass and get over it.

wisdom teeth.... to get them out they require surgery.

Wisdom teeth if left in will get your teeth all crooked, since they are teeth that no longer fit in our modern day jaws that still try to grow in forcefully, they literally start to push the rest of your teeth agaisnt each other resulting in what? Crooked ass teeth.

So yeah, if you leave them in too long you might need to get braces after wards aswell, which is what happened to my mom. She wore braces from her late 30s till like 45

The procedure isn't the issue since they will knock you out (don't do local anesthesia)

It's afterwards that is unpleasant.

you'll want to be knocked out. If it is local, you'll be awake the whole time. Just have them knock you out, but make sure you have a ride home

Hmm, maybe I will take the option, since it seems to be what everyone else has done.

I don't think I've ever been completely knocked out before though. Hopefully no one will steal my kidneys or something while I'm under... (joking)

oh **** now.

You have nerves in that area and one mistake can leave you with a crooked face or malfunctioning mouth.

Also you are there for like 2 hours or more, is you have that half anesthesia where you are still awake, you'll be just laying there looking at masked people 2 inched away from your face. And you do feel the vibrations of the drills, not the paint, but the vibrations. Then there is all that blood and needles, knifes, and water spraying all over the place.

Mine wasn't too bad, but wasn't great either. The first day, once the meds wore off, the pain was terrible for the first hour or so. For the next few days it just came down to not being able to fully open my mouth and eating anything too solid. The swelling and bruising wasn't bad at all.

Think I was either 18, or 19 when I got mine out, procedure wasn't bad and I don't even remember getting driven home. Ended up vomiting a lot though because apparently they gave me too much anesthesia, unfortunately that was my ironic twist because I think I only got 2 out and had the least amount pulled compared to my triplet brothers. And while they were up and about the same day and eating Mcdonalds, I vomited and spent the day sleeping in bed.

It depends on the room in your mouth, the condition of your teeth..etc

I had my top right one removed because it had a cavity in it *there just wasn't anyway to brush back there* it was easy to remove and cost 100 dollars, my top left one has a big hole in it but I have no money so I cannot get it pulled till I do, and my lower wisdom teeth are both slight eruptions just the tops are showing so they would take major dental surgery and cost 150-200+

I haven't had mine emerge yet.. My dentist told me I have them and they show up on xrays, but they haven't started hurting or causing any discomfort so I'm not going to go get my mouth cut open for no reason. Apparently they're SUPPOSED to grow in at 90 degrees so they shove your teeth over if you have any missing ones/big gaps. So I guess get a second opinion maybe, an unbiased opinion if you can, but wisdom teeth seem to be a moneymaker for dentists.

If you have to do it and if you have the option to be knocked out, be knocked out. Being awake while they're ripping things out of your jaw and hacking around in there is bound to be terrifying. Just get put out.

Yep. Was put under for a couple of hours to get all 4 corners taken out.

It was actually far less worse than I thought it would be. The pain afterwards was actually pretty tolerable, and I just lived off of pumpkin soup and custard for a couple of weeks.

I got mine pulled out. I went home and I drank vodka and whiskey when the numbing went away. I was fine. Alcohol can fix many problems. It sure as hell stopped the bleeding really quick. Healed fine and I did not have to suffer the pain or require pain medication.

I never understand that with people. If your suffering from heroin withdrawal or something, go smoke some weed, drink alcohol and do other drugs to help with it. When I do too much cocaine, speed or ecstacy, I just drink some booze so my heart doesn't explode lol.

Mine haven't fully come out yet. Don't know if it's natural considering I'm nearing 21. As long as they don't cause any real trouble when they emerge, I won't be taking them out. I don't know anyone in my circle who has had their wisdom teeth removed. So yeah, they're staying.

Mine grew in early and felt fine, and I was told I would probably be able to keep them. Last summer, the dentist said they were impacted and I had to get them out. It wasn't bad at all. The worst pain was a few hours after the surgery, when the pain meds began to wear off. I took the prescribed pain meds and it didn't help much, then when I took them the next time, I felt much better. I stopped bleeding pretty quickly and was able to eat a lot of soft food. The worst part for me were the holes in my mouth. That wasn't easy to get used to, and food kept getting in there, but they healed up after about two months. Overall, it was an easy surgery, and you have nothing to be worried about.

Yes, two years ago. I was nervous as hell and ended up making a thread just like this. Two were impacted and one had already come in. One of the impacted ones hurt like hell that I finally had to cave and get it done. I had been procrastinating the operation for years.

The first day is the worst. I went to the pharmacy after the operation to get a pack of gauze (you will need these). I was in a good deal of pain, but not as much as I was expecting. As soon as I got home, I opened my mouth near the sink to put in a fresh gauze when blood just started pouring out of my mouth, and I couldn't really feel it or stop it because of the god damn novocaine. I was prepared for this to stop after a couple of hours, but no dice. I just kept clenching on the gauze. It was such an annoyance that I ended up looking up an alternative: tea bags. Ended up going to my neighbors to get some because, of course, I didn't have any. The bleeding subsided a tad, but it was still bad. I was in so much pain that I basically just passed out after a while.

The next day was fine. The bleeding had stopped (kept worrying that my stitches got taken out, as I couldn't see them) and the pain wasn't as strong. It just got better from there. I went back to regular food four or five days later. I got so sick of having chicken soup that I didn't really care anymore.

So, in short, the first day is the worst. It gets better from there. FYI, I got the operation done without going under, which.. wasn't pleasing. You could hear the cracking of the teeth.

Mine are coming in, but I feel no pain, so I'll leave them alone. Are yours causing you pain, TC?

I wouldn't say I'm in pain per se, but they do tend to ache from time to time.

If they are not impacted, let them grow out. It took ten minutes and Novocain to remove mine after they broke through. If they are impacted the dentist will refer you to an oral surgeon, and if they aren't impacted, the risk of infection, or worse death during the anesthesia out ways any benefits from getting them removed early

I was in agony and had constant bleeding for like 2-3 days. It's pretty major surgery. I had all 4 teeth removed in one sitting. The actual procedure was pretty rad since they drugged me pretty good. After that it was not fun.

In the end it was worth it though. I was having headaches and pain in my mouth/head area, so my dentist suggested having my teeth removed since they were probably cramming my other teeth and causing the pain.

One on either side at different times of my life (one in my 20s/one in my 40s). One was agonizing. The other didn't hurt at all. Not sure why.

Yeah, I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed when I was 20. They put me under for the procedure, but I came too half way through and apparently they had to restrain me while they upped the dose because I started to freak out. After that, they gave me some codine for the pain, which I had an allergic reaction to and by the time I got home, I was vomiting profusely and bleeding heavily from the mouth. My parents called the dentist in a panic and they told them to put tea bags in my mouth to stop the bleeding. The next morning I woke up with blood all aver my pillow, tea bags wedged in my mouth and a hugely swollen jaw that would not go down for a week. Long story short, twas a shitty experience.

I have taken out 3. Local anaesthesia(sp?) and operated them out since they were covered and not out in the open. The procedure can be very painful, but for me it was not. If you are very luck it is very easy to pull them out, if you are very unlucky, it is a lot of work and pain.

Personal experience was one day with 2 days with a little pain the first time and one day the second time.

I got mine taken out when I was in USMC boot camp. They numbed me up and took all 4 out at the same time, the bottom 2 they had to stitch after, they weren't out as far as the top ones. it wasn't to bad other than having it done in boot camp.
