So I just went and watched through the live-action "The Tick" series. By God the show is awesome and it is such a shame that it got cancelled! It only got one 9 episode season apparently because it was pretty expensive to produce. You watch the show and the characters really start to develop and grow on you but then the show is just suddenly over and you are left wanting more.

They chose the absolute PERFECT person to play The Tick! Patrick Warburton just has that amazing combination of the perfect voice, straight-faced comedy delivery, AND the immense physical strength that "The Tick" has (he is actually invulnerable and super strong). The rest of the cast is fantastic as well and their chemistry together is just fantastic.

For those not familiar with the show, this is one of the many great scenes contained in the short show.

So anyone else familiar with the show and what did you think? And of course what other shows do you feel got cancelled too soon?

Hehehe I have managed to subliminally infect your MIND! That is a great show though and it is only 6 episodes long. At least with FLCL the show felt finished in the end.

With The Tick, it is just so great and funny and there is sooo much more than can do and tons of material to pull from yet it is just over after the short 9 episodes. It is really sad...

Oh and Lostrib, Firefly is a great mention there. Haven't watched all the way through the show yet, but what I have seen showed they had a huge universe to explore and play around with and yet that show got only the one season in which it is my understanding that they didn't even freaking air the episodes in order....

At least that show had enough of a following to get that movie "Serenity" made.

That didn't get cancelled too soon. The creators made it exactly as long as it needed to be and then they stopped. The fact that you want more doesn't mean that it ended too soon, it ended exactly where it needed to end and left you wanting more.

That's actually a good thing, and it doesn't happen often enough. Way too often, series go on way longer than they needed to, and something awesome ends with fans wishing that it would just f***ing die already (X-Files, The Simpsons). It's actually GOOD to stop before people get sick of it. As the saying goes, "always leave the audience wanting more".

Terra Nova.

sure there was a pretty big plot hole, but the way they left off season 1 with a big cliffhanger pissed me off.

lets put a big cliffhanger, enough to be able to do a second season. lets get the fans hyped up. then wouldnt this be funny, let cancel that shit!

disregarding the plot hole, i really liked the series.

I don't know if they got canned, but it should have definitely lasted more than 4 seasons.

Jericho and Commander in Chief come to mind. Both shows had great premises but ended so abruptly. I'm probably forgetting some more.

I could say Freaks and Geeks, but it works well with one season, and I'm afraid if it had continued it would have veered into the teenage tropes it so carefully avoided. But Terriers, that one just hurts.

Only one I can say that I'd like there woulda been more episodes of is Pushing Daisies, another two seasons would of been fantastical.

I agree with Sammy's post about Freaks and Geeks even though it is sad to see their stories end so soon. Undeclared never reached the highs that Freaks did but it had alot more potential to be a long running successful tv comedy. I'll also add My So-Called Life because I'm pretty sure the writers could have made great follow up seasons.

Not sure if British shows count but if they do I'll add Spaced and Fawlty Towers.

The 4400. That show had such an awesome premise, and even though it had its weak moments, it was still an awesome scifi show.

Deadwood. Luckily they didn't cap off the final season with some big cliffhanger or anything so at least it felt somewhat as if it had been finished off properly. But the show had really hit its stride in the last season, it's such a shame it just got cut off like that.

Yeah.

I felt the same way at first, but I stuck with it because just about every show on FX I've seen starts with a bunch of stand-alone episodes before it starts to get serialized -- and it actually turns into something engaging. In addition to that, a lot of what you see at the beginning gets re-addressed later on.

That's not the reason why I liked it so much though: it was the characters. I really loved them and only wished to spend more time with them and the shame of it all is that they were probably going to inhabit what would have been an awesome TV world in the same way those characters on Justified do. But in San Diego, which is where I live.

Yeah I definitely agree with you. The way it ended with Darkseid it felt like they were going to start something really epic. And I loved the character design - way better than the DCAU if you ask me and the fights were awesome.

Silver Surfer. Considering how good it is at six episodes or so, I imagine a twenty six episode show or first season would have been one of the best shows ever made. Since it what cancelled, calling it as such seems improper.

2. Flash Forward

3. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

Freaks and Geeks

Undeclared

My So-Called Life

Party Down

Gravity

______

As for Farscape, I loved it, but it did have 88 episodes (28 more than Breaking Bad), and though I was sad to see it go, I wouldn't put it in this thread because it lasted more than 2 seasons.
