Great Teacher Onizuka is really good. If you are okay with romance, Kare Kano is great too.

MangaFoxis my fav site for reading manga, ive read just about everything in the Yuri/Shoujo Ai/Shounen Ai/Yaoi sections, but they are kind of special interest. Anyways Bakuman, Seikon no Qwaser, Soul eater, and The breaker are pretty good and should appeal to a lot of people.

What about fantasy.

It seems you would enjoy a Shonen (manga/anime aimed a teens in short) manga series if you like fighting scifi (and I also presume fantasy).

The current 4 popular weekly shonen series are Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, and Fairy Tail.

Berserk and Vinland Saga are both mangas which prefer quality over quantity.

But yes Berserk is very mature, not for the faint of heart.

Anything by Osamu Tezuka or Yoshihiro Tatsumi.

For Tezuka:

Buddha (a 9 volume epic about the life of the man)

Apollo's Song (a beautiful tragedy)

Phoenix (something everyone needs to read)

For Tatsumi:

Push man and Other Stories (very stark dramas by a repressed graphic novelist)

A Drifting Life (an 800 page auto-biography of sorts)

I read this. It was very....interesting. Also, Akira the manga. It's a 6 volume story in sync with the movie, but more expanded.

Try:

Veritas

Highschool of the Dead (if you like those zombie movies, I hear it's gonna be animated yay!)

Gamaran (this one has one of the best sword fights ever - action packed)

I would only recommend Berserk if your want to read 33volumes+(where I stopped) and after your done have to wait 6-to a whole year just to see the newest chapter release. My recommendation would be "Welcome to the NHK" Great manga!

Any genres you like? Level of adult themes? Sexuality?

There's an incredibly diverse amount of manga out there, and it's very hard to out right recommend things without knowing about your tastes first.
