Just wondering if anyone knows of a good site to dl songs from. Would be nice to not have to have license and a mandatory player. Would like to burn and play anywhere at any time. I know lots of places have rules as such and looking for "freedom" from it all.

Thanks for any assistance..

Thepiratebay.org is your best bet for downloading. Questionable legality, though.

Doesn't iTunes have DRM though?

TC, if you want music that's completely yours when you buy it, take a look at amazonMP3. It's DRM free :D

you quoted the person AND gave the answer I was going to. :P

yep, Amazon is your best bet TC. I have Amazon Student, and they just recently gave me $3 for free the other day. so I picked up a couple songs and got acquainted with Amazonmp3.

Amazon>>>>>messing with iTunes by miles.

DRM is "digital rights management." It means when you download a song from iTunes it gives it to you in this weird ass file type that can't be properly identified on other programs/mp3 players. So then you gotta go and convert it and probably lose some of the quality in the process. Like others said, downloading mp3's from Amazon is the bomb. It's simple to download and the songs come in standard mp3 format so no need to mess around with it.

I see. It's a good thing I don't actually use iTunes then.

Paying for mp3 files is stupid. No way around it, buy the CD. Order online from Amazon, it's super cheap.

I agree with this also. CD's off of Amazon are usually at least a few bucks cheaper than they are in stores. If it's an old CD, it can be around $5 to $10 under the original price. Great price, plus you get an actual CD. The only downside is that you have to wait a week opposed to waiting for a few minutes to download the songs.

Mininova.org

It used to be just like piratebay, now they only host content the bands themselves put there. And it is free as far as I know. Here:

I disagree. I buy MP3 albums off amazon, often for under 10 dollars. I want music, but I don't want to break the law and risk getting caught. I also don't want a large collection of CDs. Just having the MP3 files is easier imo. I pay less and get the songs faster. Win-win imo.

If you are going to spend money anyways, just buy the CD, and burn it to your music library.
