A 19-year-old woman in Minnesota has been charged with manslaughter for fatally shooting her boyfriend as the couple attempted to record a YouTube stunt, authorities said.

Monalisa Perez was arrested on Monday night after she fatally shot her 22-year-old boyfriend, Pedro Ruiz, while the couple were recording a YouTube stunt for her vlog, according to a criminal complaint provided to BuzzFeed News.

Perez, who is pregnant, told police that Ruiz wanted to make a YouTube video of her shooting a book while he was holding it, as he believed that the book would stop the bullet, according to the criminal complaint.

Ruiz had set up a GoPro camera and another camera on a ladder nearby to record the stunt, according to the complaint. The two cameras — which recorded the shooting — have been secured as evidence for the investigation.

Perez told authorities that Ruiz eventually "convinced" her to shoot the book he was holding.

She used a .50-caliber Desert Eagle firearm which authorities recovered from the grass near the house.

I read the news article about this and its just tragic. In the report i read, the girl shot a desert eagle .50cal.

I couldnt even handle the Desert Eagle in Socom 1, cant imagine the recoil in real life.

Apparently the victim had tested it with another book and the bullet didn't make it through. Assuming the victim wasn't stupid and used another book of same or greater thickness and density, wonder what went wrong. It might be due to the variation in powder mix. Either way pretty dumb to be risking your life for more likes on social media.

My friend has one, and it throws my arm pretty good, I'm a big guy, too.

It's funny I could stick my pinky finger in the breech (breech? chamber?), thing is HUUUUUUUGE!

Kinda. Maybe it was a thick bible or yellow pages. The thickness might have played a role in their horrible miscalculation. Either way it was a stupid idea but I could see why some people would think it would actually work.

Hope that Social services takes a good look at this mom and how she is around her kids, she is clearly way to young to be a parent.

Considering the parents, probably gangbangers or teenage parents like their mom.

I think you misunderstood. The bullet failed to make it all the way through the book the first time, which means it succeeded and why the guy went ahead and did it for real.

A 3 year old was there witnessing the "failed experiment." This stupid move was an attempt to get the couple's youtube channel more subscribers.

There are some that will never learn. That's the problem. I'm all for gun ownership, etc., but I'm starting to wonder if there should be courses and psych evals before being allowed to own one.

Well, first of all guns are not really the issue here.

The issue is the youtube generation where youtube allow stuns in this caliber that appeals to the "weak" and for them to be overdone.

It´s like when Gamespot had the "brilliant idea" and madethe comment show, where they tried to shame people so they would stop being trolls, but all that happened was that they got the exact opposite , since every troll wanted to be on the show. They gave them a stamp of approval.

for everyone calling these people stupid, maybe you should take a closer look at the situation. It's clear that the man instigated the situation and at the age of 22, he got reckless to make money, it may be considered stupid by many but 22 is not exactly an age were you have lot of life experience. The woman is 19, that's very young.

They also tested it, so they thought it would work, if feel sorry for them, calling them stupid is inconsiderate. Maybe they didn't have the guidance from their parents like you did. I wouldn't have done this at the age of 22 or 19 but I did a lot of other reckless shit. Of course there wasn't any youtube when I was that age, but there weren't (and still aren't) any guns here either, so who know what might have happened if I was 22 in 2017 in minnesota.

You're right that we don't know the details. We're always very quick to judge but 99.9% of the cases we'd pretty much do the same thing given the same situation (including the people's capabilities, memories). It does make you wonder what the situation here has to be for something like this to happen.

My condolences to whoever is affected by the loss.

The "kids" have two kids themselves so there is no time to be "playful" young and naive.

So no these two were just plain and simply stupid, and no that is not inconsiderate , it´s calling it what it is.
